Penguins vs. Avalanche NHL Betting Odds
The Pens and Avs met twice last season, with each team grabbing a win as the visitors. The games were both blowouts, with the Penguins taking the opener 7-2, while Avalanche responded with a 6-2 win, both contests hitting the OVER.
In seven games this season, Pittsburgh has hit the OVER four times. The Pens offence is clicking at a top-10 rate, scoring 3.43 goals per game, while giving up three goals against per night. Sitting in sixth place in the Metropolitan, oddsmakers have them as a +180 to make the postseason again this season.
Colorado has also hit the OVER in four or their seven outings so far and boast the second highest scoring offence, producing 4.43 goals per night, behind the Edmonton Oilers. The Avs have failed to cover in each of their past three games, marking them 3-4 in that column. They are tied as the favourite to win the cup, paying out at +700, and +340 to win the Western Conference.

The Penguins were on the wrong side of an upset on Tuesday, taking a 5-3 loss at the hands of the Chicago Blackhawks. Sidney Crosby got the monkey off his back in that one, scoring a pair of goals, his first tallies of the season. Nick Robertson (fourth) scored the only other goal for the Pens in this one, as they lost for the fourth time in their past five.
39-year-old Sidney Crosby got his season total up to four points with his two-goal performance. Sid the Kid has been slow out the gate, but should get back to form. The Pens captain has never had a season with less than over a point per game.
Friday night’s matchup will be the second of a four-game Western Conference swing and their first of a back-to-back, playing in Vegas on Saturday. With still only a single regulation win under their belt, Pittsburgh will have three tough matchups in a row to get back on track.
Colorado Avalanche
After splitting a back-to-back with the Dallas Stars, the Avalanche are eyeing up the top-seed in the Central Division. Captain Gabriel Landeskog (second) opened the scoring on Wednesday night and veteran Brock Nelson’s (third) tally in the third tied the game at two, before going on to lose in a shootout. Scott Wedgewood tended the goal in the loss, stopping 20 of 22 shots, getting the start for just the second time this season.
Superstar Nathan MacKinnon was held off the scoresheet for just the second time in seven games this season. In the five games that he has produced, he put up at least a pair in each one. At five goals, seven assists and 12 points, Mac is fifth in league scoring.
The Avs have now lost back-to-back games on home ice, dropping their record to 2-1-1. After hosting the Penguins on Friday, Colorado will head East for a two-game set on the road beginning Monday.
