Panthers vs. Rangers NHL Playoff Betting Odds

Florida’s 3-2 overtime home win in Game 4 on Tuesday assured us there will be a Game 6 back in the Miami area on Saturday night. On the updated series line, the Panthers are -135 (were +145 entering Game 4) and the Rangers +115 (were -175).

The favoured exact result is Florida in six games at +200, followed by in seven at +260, New York in seven at +275 and New York in six at +380. I do believe whichever team wins Thursday takes the series. That it ends in six games and seven are both -110.

Tied 2-2 in a best-of-7, Florida is 3-2 all-time in series. In Game 5s overall, the Panthers are 8-5 and 1-1 this postseason (both were at home). New York is 15-18 all-time in a series when it’s tied 2-2. In Game 5s, the Blueshirts are 28-42. They are 0-1 this year.

Florida Panthers

We projected a 4-2 win for Florida in Game 4 on Tuesday and it was 3-2 in overtime – the third straight overtime game in the series. Sam Bennett (fourth of the playoffs) and Carter Verhaeghe (ninth) had the regulation goals for the Panthers in the second period for a 2-1 lead. Sam Reinhart’s eighth of the playoffs on the power play at 1:12 of OT won it. It was fastest goal from the start of an overtime period in franchise playoff history. The previous benchmark was 1:51, scored by Matthew Tkachuk in Game 2 of the 2023 conference finals. It was Reinhart’s second career playoff overtime goal. Verhaeghe holds the career franchise record with five. He now has a five-game points streak going with that regulation goal. Aleksander Barkov had two power-play assists in the win. Sergei Bobrovsky faced 13 shots in the first period Tuesday but only 10 more the rest of the way. It’s the ninth time in the last 10 games that Bobrovsky has faced less than 30 shots on goal.

New York Rangers

New York got regulation goals from Vincent Trocheck (eighth of playoffs) and Alexis Lafreniere (seventh), but a Mike Zibanejad turnover early in overtime was what led to Florida’s winning goal Tuesday because it forced teammate Blake Wheeler into committing a penalty against the Panthers’ Aleksander Barkov to prevent him from a clean scoring chance on goaltender Igor Shesterkin. Florida won it on the ensuing power play. Wheeler hadn’t played in a game for about three months due to injury. Shesterkin turned aside 37 of 40 shots in the loss. Lafreniere, the former No. 1 overall pick, became the fifth player in franchise history with seven goals in a postseason before age 23. New York was trying for its 17th third-period comeback win this season (regular season & playoffs combined), which would have tied the 2021-22 Panthers for the second most ever in a single season. When a best-of-7 playoff series tied 2-2, the victor in Game 5 goes on to win the series nearly 80 per cent of the time (231-62).
