After their historic winning streak, the Oilers have struggled dropping three of their past five games this month.

Their opponents in Dallas have been one of the best teams in the league over the past month going 9-2-1 since January 16th. The Stars are now first in the Central Division and have pulled into a tie for second in the entire league.

Oilers vs. Stars NHL Betting Odds

The Stars visited Edmonton back in November, the only meeting of the season between these teams so far. Dallas won the game 4-3 thanks to a 46-save performance from Scott Wedgewood, while Joe Pavelski and Roope Hintz led the way offensively for the Stars with three points each.

This matchup has been very close for the past few seasons, with each team winning three of their past six meetings. It always tends to be a high-scoring contest though playing the OVER 5-1 in that six-game stretch.

The shut-down defence was the Oilers key to success during their 16-game win streak and that has been missing from their game this month. They have allowed three or more goals in each outing, giving up an average of four goals a night in the past five games. They have hit the OVER in three of those five games and are now 21-26-3 O/U on the season.

After scoring nine on Thursday, the Stars are now the highest-scoring team in the league, putting in 3.76 goals per game this season. Their defensive game has great been since the break as well though, allowing two or fewer in four of their five games. They have played the OVER more than any other team this season at 34-20, including six of their past 10.

Edmonton Oilers

The Oilers opened their three-game road trip in St. Louis on Thursday, searching for consecutive wins for the first time since the All-Star break. They looked good after the first period, scoring back-to-back goals to go up 2-1 on the Blues after the first. St. Louis would open the floodgates on the second though, scoring four straight goals to take a 5-2 lead into the third period. The Oilers would score once in the final frame before giving up an empty netter for the 6-3 final.

Edmonton did muster 38 shots on goal but could not solve Blues goalie Jordan Binnington. Stuart Skinner was in the net for the Oilers for the third straight game and allowed five goals on 29 shots.

Connor McDavid had three assists in the game, giving him nine helpers in the past two games. He is now third in the league for points with 80 (21G 59A) in 48 games, trailing first place by 13 points.

Dallas Stars

The Stars offence exploded Thursday night, scoring a season-high nine goals in a 9-2 win in Nashville over the Predators. They opened the scoring 35 seconds into the first period and had a 4-0 lead headed to the second. They would trade goals back and forth in the middle frame, Dallas scoring three to the Preds two, putting them ahead now 7-2. Two more goals in the third would make it 9-2 before Dallas put it in cruise control for the final 10 minutes, collecting their third win in a row.

Wyatt Johnston led the way in points with a pair of goals and a pair of assists, while Matt Duchene got revenge on the team that bought out his contract over the summer by putting in a pair of goals of his own. Duchene is having a great year on his new team, the 33-year-old is second on the team with 52 points (21G 31A) in 53 games and has multiple points in each of the past three games.
