Edmonton Oilers vs. Detroit Red Wings Prediction, NHL Odds
The Edmonton Oilers head to Detroit after handling the Chicago Blackhawks 2-1 on Tuesday evening. The Albertan side is flying high these days, with eight wins on the run and looking good as it climbs the ranks of the Western Conference. As for Detroit, it has been idle since Sunday evening when it escaped Anaheim with a narrow 3-2 victory.
The NHL odds favour the Edmonton Oilers, pricing them at -175 on the moneyline and +135 on the puckline.
Oilers vs. Red Wings NHL Betting Odds
Both sides are on the up and up. As stated, Edmonton has vanquished its eight previous foes. Some were tall challenges, like the Rangers and Kings, while others were weaker opponents – Senators and Blackhawks – but the Oilers are doing everything right these days. The dark days of October and November seem to be behind them.
It hasn’t been rosy against the puckline line, though. The Oilers are only 17-20 in that regard but, to their credit, have greatly improved that record in recent weeks. For example, they didn’t cover in Chicago the other night but that was the first time in eight games they failed to do so. Detroit has been more up and down lately ATS, going 3-4 in their last seven. That said, the Red Wings are still 20-17 on the season.
There could be fireworks on Wednesday night. The Oilers are Red Wings rank seventh and sixth in scoring, respectively. Edmonton puts the puck in the net 3.54 times a night and Detroit 3.55 times. It’s the Oilers who, perhaps surprisingly, have the better GAA at 3.08 to the Red Wings’ 3.40. Stuart Skinner has unmistakably improved his play with a 2.69 average and .901 save percentage.
Edmonton Oilers
Not all wins will be memorable or great. That certainly wasn’t the case on Tuesday when the Oilers visited the Blackhawks and skated away as 2-1 victors.
Sometimes the argument in favour of a club is that they can put in a fairly lethargic performance against a weak opponent and still earn the spoils. That’s basically what transpired in Chicago. The hosts surprised the Oilers with a goal early in the first period (Jason Dickinson continues his nice season). Rather than turn on the afterburners, Edmonton reacted with patience and timely scoring opportunities. Leon Draisaitl (19th) and Connor McDavid (15th) netted for Edmonton, the latter on a sweet breakaway, but that was it. The Oilers only fired 15 times on target. This was a matter of fulfilling the minimum requirements and getting out of Dodge with two points in their pockets.
Detroit Red Wings
Detroit was in Anaheim on Sunday night and got a sterner test than perhaps they expected out of the Ducks.
Barely 20 seconds into the contest, the Red Wings already found themselves down 1-0 off a Trevor Zegras deflected shot in close. Dylan Larkin (14th) would level the terms on the power play in the same period before Joe Veleno (eighth) gave Detroit the lead in the middle frame. The third period proved the most breathtaking, with both teams going at it in what suddenly became a very open game. Anaheim tied it just a few minutes in and pressed consistently for much of the final 20 minutes until Michael Rasmussen broke their hearts with the game-winner at 18:53. Make the final 3-2 for the Red Wings.
G Ville Husso remains injured, but with Alex Lyon playing so well (2.51 GAA, .920 save percentage) one wonders if the Red Wings have a new number one keeper.
