Both squads are a lock for the playoffs this spring and Saturday will serve as a measuring stick matchup in preparation for the postseason. Edmonton has been scorching teams this month losing just once in regulation over their 10 appearances in March. The Leafs have been staying on course through winning five of nine helping them keep their third seed in the Atlantic Division.

With a loaded NHL schedule on Saturday night, the matchup at Scotiabank Arena will garner tons of attention. Puck drop from downtown Toronto is set for 7:00 PM EST. Our NHL odds have the Oilers as a slight favourite, sitting at -135 on the Moneyline and the OVER/UNDER set at six goals.

Oilers vs. Maple Leafs NHL Betting Odds

Hockey fans across the country agree that it has been too long since lord Stanley’s Cup has been hoisted up North and Saturday sees two of Canada’s best teams go head-to-head. There are currently four Canadian teams set to make the playoffs, and betting on a Canadian club to win the cup pays out at +250. The Oilers are looking like our nation’s best shot, given a +750 line, while Toronto, Winnipeg and Vancouver are all listed at +1500 to take the championship. The Oilers took the win in their first matchup of the season back in January erasing a 2-0 deficit with four goals in the second half for a 4-2 win. When two of the sport’s best offensive talents you would expect some high-scoring games, which has been the status quo over the past few seasons. Seven of their past eight games have featured six goals or more and Toronto is 5-2-1 in that stretch.

Edmonton’s offence exploded for eight goals in their last game, single-handedly hitting the OVER for just the third time in their last 10 and Toronto has hit the OVER in each of their past four games. Both team’s offences are in the top four of the league, averaging three or more goals a night.

Edmonton Oilers

Scoring eight goals on Thursday powered Edmonton’s point streak to six straight games. They got off to a slow start though, trailing less than two minutes into the game. Zach Hyman’s 48th of the season tied the game at three apiece in the last minute of the second and the Oil never looked back. Hyman’s second of the night and 49th of the campaign was part of the Oilers’ five straight goals in the final frame running away to an 8-3 win.

Hyman will be playing in front of friends and family in his hometown on Saturday night, with a chance to score his 50th of the year versus his former team. Playing in his ninth NHL season Hyman has already surpassed his career-high in goals but the 50 mark is something special. Doing that in front of Leafs Nation will certainly sting for the home crowd after the team lost him for nothing back in the 2021 offseason.

Toronto Maple Leafs

Getting back in the win column was huge for the Leafs on Wednesday night, beating the Washington Capitals 7-3 in their building. Auston Mathews had a monster performance putting up five points (2G 3A) and was one video replay away from notching his seventh hat trick of the season. It only took AM34 16 seconds to notch his first of the night and once the Buds got the lead they never looked back.

Mitch Marner will miss his sixth consecutive game on Saturday, still recovering from a high ankle sprain. The Leafs miss their 100-point winger but have won three of five in his absence, he will not be available for Toronto in either of their games this weekend.

Joining Marner on the sideline is deadline acquisition and defenceman Ilya Lyubushkin who will be out with illness for the third consecutive game. Tyler Bertuzzi is also not looking like he will suit up for the squad after missing Friday’s practice with an undisclosed injury.
