Edmonton Oilers vs. Winnipeg Jets Prediction, NHL Odds
It’s another all-Canadian NHL preseason matchup as the Winnipeg Jets host a Western Conference opponent in the Edmonton Oilers. Edmonton’s organization kicked off the 2025 NHL preseason with two games against the Calgary Flames, going 1-0-1. As for Winnipeg, this is Game 1 of the preseason.
It is only early, and these games mean nothing in the standings, but each club will be looking to set the tone, build good habits, and build momentum. It should be a great September game of hockey, one where we should catch a glimpse of some of the top talents on each side.

Oilers vs. Jets NHL Betting Odds
Last preseason, the Oilers went 3-5-0, and the Jets went 3-2-1. They met twice in the preseason, splitting the two games, but Winnipeg took two out of three when these teams met in the 2024-25 regular season.
Edmonton Oilers
Both versions of the Edmonton Oilers played well during Sunday night’s two intrasquad games, going 1-0-1 against the Calgary Flames. They will look to do the same against the Jets as they aim to build momentum on the way to what will hopefully be their third-straight visit to the Stanley Cup Final.
There has been some drama in Edmonton, caused by two consecutive losing efforts in those Stanley Cup Final visits. It has included goaltending drama within the playoffs when each goaltender was heavily relied on at different times, lots of roster changeover, and most importantly, Connor McDavid heading into the final year of his contract without a decision on his future.
For now, all they can focus on is the on-ice product. That continues on with this preseason game against the Jets.
Winnipeg Jets
Throughout the offseason, free agency was a major topic for the Jets, with players on the way in and out. Star winger Nikolaj Ehlers has taken his talents to the Carolina Hurricanes after starting his career in Winnipeg in the 2015-16 season.
This was an expected breakup, but his talent will be missed, and they have since bolstered their team with veteran presence in Gustav Nyquist, Tanner Pearson, and, in a surprise twist, Jonathan Toews, who has not played in the NHL since the 2022-23 season.
Winnipeg has qualified for the playoffs in seven of the past eight seasons, but has made the Western Conference Final just once. Will this be the year they finally take another step?
NHL Prediction: Who Will Win Oilers vs. Jets?
Being in game-shape is a real thing. The Edmonton Oilers have just completed two Sunday night games, including one on the road. They fared pretty decently and could have far less rust.
With Edmonton already having these two games under its belt, I could see them already trim the roster and make room for stars McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and more, who have yet to suit up this preseason.
Neither team is necessarily stacked with prospects, as they have seen lots of success lately, so the result of this game will mostly rely on the expected NHL hopefuls. Until Winnipeg gets this first game in, I’ll take the Oilers on the road.
