Winnipeg looks for revenge in their last matchup of the regular season against the Oilers.  There’s a good chance this game ends up being a first round playoff preview.

Connor McDavid put up four points as his Oilers embarrassed the Jets 6-1 on their home ice in Winnipeg on Monday night, extending the Jets’ losing streak to four.

Oilers vs. Jets Betting Analysis

Early betting has 86 per cent of Sports Interaction customers taking the -115 Oilers tonight and for good reason. Edmonton leads the season series 6-2 and has beaten the Jets in five straight meetings. Winnipeg, amid its worst slump of the year, has only scored six goals in their past five games against Edmonton, and they’re being outscored 31-19 in the series. Home ice has not been an advantage for the Jets lately, as they’ve lost six of their past seven at Bell MTS Place, bringing their home record to 11-10-2 on the year.

With a total of 6.0 on the NHL odds tonight, bettors are split 50/50. The eight games between these teams have split on the over/under 4-4. Winnipeg keeps the score low when at home with an over/under record of 6-12-1, while Edmonton’s is 8-8-1 on the road. The Oilers’ last ten games have played the under eight times.

The Jets are 14-5 against the spread on home ice this year but have dropped the past four in a row during their losing skid.

Edmonton Oilers

Mike Smith is 4-0 against the Jets and has only given up a combined three goals in his last three starts against them. He is probably the most valuable player for the Oilers, besides, of course, Connor McDavid. His record is 17-5-2 with a 2.32 goals-against average and a .932 save percentage. Speaking of McDavid, the best player in the world has a chance to hit 100 points for the fourth time in his career. The craziest part is, he could accomplish the feat in only 56 games. With 10 games left on the schedule, he has picked up 81 points and averaged of 1.76 points per game. To complete the feat he will need almost two points a night, which he has already averaged over the past four games.

Winnipeg Jets

The Winnipeg Jets are battling through adversity for the first time this season. All year they have been a model of consistency only losing two in a row twice, but they now find themselves in unfamiliar territory as they have lost four straight. It is no help that forward Nikolaj Ehlers is out until at least the playoffs. Ehlers is second on the team in goals and points. The Jets will also be without Adam Lowry, who will miss his third game after taking a hit to the head against the Leafs.

The injuries to the team’s top six means Mason Appleton takes on a bigger role. Last game, Appleton was getting time on the powerplay and managed seven shots on the net. The Jets’ only goal on Monday came from their fourth-ranked powerplay unit. Mark Scheifele picked up the goal, his 19th marker of the season and third against the Oilers.
