Edmonton Oilers vs. Winnipeg Jets Prediction, NHL Odds
The Jets opened their current five-game home stand with Tuesday’s 4-3 loss to Vegas, extending their current slide to 10 games. The Oilers halted a two-game swoon with Tuesday’s decisive 6-2 victory over the visiting Nashville Predators, but have averaged just 2.67 goals per game while winning just three of their past six on the road.
The Oilers arrive in Winnipeg perched as slim -115 favourites on the Thursday NHL odds. The Jets trail as -105 underdogs, and the total is pegged at 6.
Oilers vs. Jets NHL Betting Odds
The Oilers contributed to the Jets’ recent woes with a pair of wins in December, capped by a 3-1 victory in Winnipeg on December 29, extending their current head-to-head win streak to three games. The Oilers have also won four straight in Winnipeg while limiting the Jets to just six total goals over that stretch, and have claimed victory by multi-goal margins four times while topping the Jets in five of seven meetings overall. The Jets have struggled to generate offence during their 10-game slide, potting just 2.20 goals per game, but have managed to keep things close on home ice, with three of their four recent defeats coming in overtime. The Oilers rediscovered their scoring touch in Tuesday’s win over Nashville after potting just nine total markers while losing three of their previous four, but still have work to do on the road, where they have averaged just 2.50 goals per game during a middling 2-2-0 run.
Edmonton Oilers
Connor McDavid provided the spark in Tuesday’s one-sided victory with his second hat trick of the season, and has now piled up 17 goals and 39 points during a 16-points streak that has lifted him past Nathan MacKinnon in the NHL scoring race with 75 points. With four goals in two games to kick off the new year, McDavid is worth backing on Thursday with a value bet on the NHL player props as a +700 wager to score 2+ goals, and as a lucrative +110 bet to generate at least one point on the power play for the third time in as many games. Leon Draisaitl also got into the act in Tuesday’s victory, scoring once and adding two helpers to end a four-game goalscoring drought, but has failed to bulge the twine in consecutive games in over a month.
Winnipeg Jets
The Jets’ struggles have not been helped by the lack of production from the club’s biggest stars. Kyle Connor has rebounded from a late-December swoon with two goals and two assists over the past three games but has mustered just four total shots on goal over the p[ast two games, and just a single assists in two appearances versus the Oilers this season. An Olympic team snub has failed to light a fire under veteran Mark Scheifele, who has been held off the scoresheet in each of the past two games and failed to record a point in four of his past six home appearances. Cole Perfetti has shown signs of snapping out of a season-long slump. The 24-year-old centre broke through with 50 points in 82 games last season, but has struggled to find his game after a delayed season debut, tallying nine points in 27 games and just one goal in 11 home contests.
