Oilers vs. Islanders NHL Betting Odds

New York has made the playoffs each of the past two seasons but will most likely miss out this year under Coach Patrick Roy. The Hall of Fame goaltender took over during last season for the fired Lane Lambert. This has definitely been a disappointing campaign for the franchise, which essentially waived the white flag on 2024-25 last week by arguably the team’s best all-around forward, Brock Nelson, to Colorado. To make the postseason, the Isles are +390 with no at -525.

Edmonton will be playoff-bound but it’s simply a matter as which seed in the Pacific Division/Western Conference. Vegas is starting to pull away a little for the Pacific title and is the -200 favourite with Edmonton at +250. If the Oilers can’t catch the Knights, the key is to stay in second and not slip to third in the division behind the Kings and lose home-ice advantage for a first-round matchup against Los Angeles.

The Oilers try for the season sweep as they beat the visiting Islanders 4-3 in overtime on Nov. 12. Both teams scored once in the second and twice in the third, with Leon Draisaitl winning at 1:52 of OT. Connor McDavid was the No. 1 star with a goal and three assists. Stuart Skinner was in net for the Oilers and Ilya Sorokin for the Islanders.

Edmonton is 6-4 in the past 10 meetings and the over-under is 4-5-1.

Edmonton Oilers

Edmonton is 0-2 on this current four-game road trip and lost 3-2 in New Jersey on Thursday night, the same score by which it lost in Buffalo on Monday. Stuart Skinner started both of those in net but it will be Calvin Pickard on Friday, and he’s 10-3-0 with a 2.53 GAA on the road this season. Blueliner Mattias Ekholm (8G, 19A) isn’t on the trip due to injury and centre Mattias Janmark (2G, 15A) missed Thursday’s loss with an illness. Leon Draisaitl (league-leading 47th goal of season) and Evan Bouchard (11th) had the goals against New Jersey. Draisaitl is on a 16-game points streak, one shy of matching Boston’s David Pastrnak for the longest run in the NHL this season. Draisaitl also became the fourth different player in franchise history with a road point streak of at least 14 games. Connor McDavid had two assists and has reached 60 for a ninth straight season. The only player to record as many is Wanye Gretzky, who recorded 13 from 1979-80 to 1991-92. The under is 4-2 in Edmonton’s past six.

New York Islanders

New York will have a sizable rest advantage as it has been off since losing a second straight game by a 4-1 score on Tuesday night in Los Angeles to complete the three-game California Swing at 1-2. Offence has been a problem all season (and really for several seasons) with the team averaging 2.69 goals per game. Anders Lee had the lone goal Tuesday, his team-leading 25th goal and 45th point. He is now two points shy of becoming the 13th player to record 500 points with the Islanders and the third to reach the milestone while captaining the club. The only captains to do so to date are current Maple Leaf John Tavares and Brent Sutter. It’s Lee’s seventh career 25-goal season, tying Tavares for the fourth-most in franchise history. Ilya Sorokin took the loss Tuesday to fall to 24-20-4 with a 2.77 GAA and .906 SV and should be back in there Friday. Blueliner Adam Boqvist (4G, 7A) left Tuesday’s loss with an injury and is in question. The under is 4-1 in New York’s past five.
