Edmonton Oilers vs. Calgary Flames Prediction, NHL Odds
Hockey’s Battle of Alberta rivalry will revived for the fourth and final time this season, when the Calgary Flames host the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night in NHL betting action at Scotiabank Saddledome.
The Flames saw their recent woes continue with Monday’s 4-2 loss to the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs, and have now averaged just 1.71 goals per game while losing six of their past seven.
The Oilers open a four-game road trip on a two-game slide after dropping a 5-2 decision to the Leafs on Tuesday, and have now been lit up for five goals per game during their current 3-3-0 run after allowing just three total goals over their previous four contests.
The Oilers remain perched as -135 favourites on Wednesday’s NHL odds. The Flames are pegged as +110 underdogs on the NHL moneyline, and the total is listed at 6.5.
Oilers vs. Flames NHL Betting Odds
The Flames hold the edge in this season’s series with the Oilers, claiming victory in two of their first three meetings, capped by a narrow 3-2 victory at home on December 27. With that win, the Flames snapped a five-game head-to-head losing streak at the Saddledome, and have now topped Edmonton in four of eight meetings overall.
Recent clashes between these clubs have been hard fought, with three of their past four dates getting settled by a single goal. Low scoring has also been commonplace, with these clubs combining to score over six total goals just once in their past seven tilts, extending a steady run for the UNDER, which has gone 9-3-1 in their past 13 meetings.
However, stopping pucks has been a problem for the Oilers, who have surrendered 12 total goals during their current slide. However, Edmonton has remained stingy on the road, surrendering just two goals per game during their current 4-1-1 run.
With losses in 11 of their past 15, the Flames have tumbled to seventh place in the Pacific Division standings but have picked up at least a point in four of their past seven home dates.
Edmonton Oilers
After avoiding giving up an early goal, the Oilers faded quickly once again on Tuesday night, surrendering all five goals in the final 40 minutes in their 5-2 loss to the Leafs. The Oilers have now been lit up for 17 goals after 20 minutes over their past five games while scoring just four times in the opening frame over that stretch.
It was a tough night for both Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid, both of who saw four-game points streaks halted, which had generated a combined 21 points. But Kasperi Kapanen found the mark against his former Toronto teammates, tallying his fourth goal in 12 games since returning from injury.
Evan Bouchard was also held off the scoresheet after tallying four goals and eight assists during a preceding five-game points streak, and has potted one marker and added three helpers in the Oilers’ two previous clashes with Calgary.
Calgary Flames
The Flames spotted the Leafs a goal just 35 seconds into Monday’s contest and never recovered on their way to yet loss. But on the bright side, the club outshot their opponents for a fourth straight game, and have averaged a respectable 34.3 shots on goal over that span.
Matt Coronato led the onslaught on Monday with seven shots on gal, and has hit the target 19 times over the past four games, but the Flames’ leading goalscorer has tallied just one marker over that stretch.
However, it was a productive night for former Leafs whipping boy Nazem Kadri, who turned in his first two-point performance since December 18 with a goal and an assist, but has picked up just six total points since that date.
Joel Farabee has also shown signs that he has put his January swoon behind him. Farabee contributed a goal and a helper on Monday, and has now tallied four points in four games after recording just one point in his previous 15 appearances.
