Edmonton Oilers vs. Vancouver Canucks Prediction, NHL Odds
The Oilers are -140 on the NHL odds with a total of 6.5 goals.
Oilers vs. Canucks NHL Betting Odds
Anyone for a Canucks +1.5/Steelers +3.5 parlay today/tonight? I’m seriously pondering that as Pittsburgh QB Aaron Rodgers faces Green Bay for the first time since leaving the club. It’s an absolutely loaded sports Sunday short of no World Series game. That picks back up Monday with Game 3 at Dodger Stadium, and Monday is a Sports Equinox. If you are unfamiliar with the term, it’s a rare annual day/night where there’s at least one game in the four major North American professional sports league: NFL, NHL, NBA and MLB.
It’s the second meeting of the season between the Oilers and Canucks with Edmonton returning to Rogers Arena on Jan. 17. On Oct. 11 in Edmonton, the Oilers were -170 and the total was also 6.5 and they won 3-1 behind goals from Noah Philip, Andrew Mangiapane and Leon Draisaitl (empty netter). Brock Boeser had the Vancouver goal to cut the lead to 2-1 early in the third. Thatcher Demko and Calvin Pickard were the goaltenders that night.
The Canucks have won six of the past 10 overall in the series, and the over-under is 5-4-1 in those.
Edmonton Oilers
It’s the second of a back-to-back for the Oilers after losing 3-2 in Seattle on Saturday night. The Kraken weren’t very good last season, but they are this year so no shame in that. Evan Bouchard and Darnell Nurse scored their first goals of the season for Edmonton, which had won nine of the previous 10 in the series. Leon Draisaitl had two assists, and Stuart Skinner made 20 saves. Connor McDavid’s (by his standards) early-season struggles continued as he was held without a point and still has only 11 on the year with one goal. He’s +135 to find the net tonight, behind only Draisaitl (+110). Because Skinner started Saturday in net, it should be Calvin Pickard tonight. The Moncton native is 2-1-0 with a 3.37 GAA and .844 SV, obviously not great numbers overall, but he played well vs. the Canucks in that first meeting. Edmonton is 1-4 in its past five road games.
Vancouver Canucks
Also the second of a B2B for Vancouver, which dropped a third game in a row Saturday, 4-3 at home vs. Montreal. And it was a bad loss, blowing a 2-0 second-period lead. Elias Pettersson was a bright spot with a goal and two helpers, marking his 121st career multi-point game to pass Tony Tanti for sole possession of eighth most in franchise history. It was Pettersson’s 38th career three-point game to tie Thomas Gradin for seventh most in Canucks history, and Pettersson is +225 for a goal tonight. Kevin Lankinen was in net Saturday, so it should be Thatcher Demko tonight, and the American is 3-2-0 with a 2.24 GAA and .927 SV. Demko is 6-10-1 with a 2.88 GAA and a .913 SV in 17 career games against Edmonton. Brock Boeser leads all active Canucks skaters in scoring against the Oilers with 31 points (18 and 13 assists) in 34 career games. Vancouver is 1-7 in its past eight Sunday games, but I like it in a higher-scoring affair.
