Oilers vs. Canucks NHL Betting Odds

The first game of the Hockey Night in Canada doubleheader Saturday night is Toronto-Montreal, and Edmonton-Vancouver is the late matchup. The Canucks are currently outside the Western Conference playoff field looking in but are -165 favourites to return to the postseason with +140 at no. The team is finally healthy, so perhaps a more consistent stretch is coming. Since winning a third straight game on Nov. 7 in Los Angeles, the Canucks haven’t won more than two in a row.

Saturday marks the second of three regular-season meetings between the Pacific Division rivals with Vancouver’s lone trip to Edmonton next Thursday. On Nov. 9, the Canucks were routed 7-3 at home by the Oilers, who scored in every period – four in the third. Connor McDavid had a goal and two assists, Leon Draisaitl a goal and an assist, Connor Brown two goals, and Mattias Janmark three helpers.

McDavid has 67 points (24G, 43A) in 41 career games against the Canucks — the most he has against any team. Stuart Skinner made 17 saves in the win, while Kevin Lankinen allowed all seven goals on 27 shots before being pulled, and Arturs Silovs made four saves in relief.

The clubs have split the past 10 meetings overall and the over-under is 5-4-1 in those.

Edmonton Oilers

Despite playing in the second of a back-to-back, the Oilers won their fourth straight game Thursday with a very impressive 4-3 victory at Colorado, arguably the toughest place to play in the league much less in a back-to-back. The Avalanche also jumped out to a 3-0 lead. But Connor McDavid’s 20th goal of the season at 14:49 of the second tied it, and Evan Bouchard’s eighth of the year was the winner at 13:05 of the third. Leon Draisaitl had two helpers and has a five-game points streak. After rallying from down 2-0 to win Wednesday at Minnesota, the Oilers recorded a multi-goal comeback win in consecutive days for the first time in franchise history. McDavid has reached 20 goals for a ninth season, joining Jari Kurri (10), Glenn Anderson (10), Mark Messier (10), Wayne Gretzky (9) and Leon Draisaitl (9) as the only players in franchise history with as many campaigns. It was also McDavid’s 320th career multi-point game to tie Al MacInnis for 46th place on the NHL’s all-time list. Stuart Skinner was in net Thursday but if recent history is a guide, it will be Calvin Pickard here. He’s 8-2-0 on the road with a 2.29 GAA and .915 SV. Edmonton is 7-0 in its past seven against the West.

Vancouver Canucks

Vancouver has looked about as bad as possible in its two-game skid in being outscored 11-2 following a 5-1 home loss to the Kings on Thursday – Los Angeles led 3-0 just 10 minutes in. “We just made some egregious, egregious plays, you know, pinching, you know, wrong decision at the wrong time. You can’t do that. Some guys are just making some really bad reads right now,” said Coach Rick Tocchet – it’s fair to wonder how secure his job is. Once again Thursday, J.T. Miller played fewer than 15 minutes and was a non-factor as he seems to be in Tocchet’s doghouse because Miller is healthy. Brock Boeser, who is tied for the second-most power-play goals for the Canucks this season with five, needs one to pass Pavel Bure (69) for the seventh most in franchise history. Because Thatcher Demko was in net Thursday, it likely will be Kevin Lankinen here, although his home splits aren’t very good with a 4-5-3 record, 3.05 GAA and .889 SV. The over is 4-1 in Vancouver’s past five at home.
