Edmonton, 4-3 on the year, is coming off a 3-1 victory yesterday evening in St. Louis, the Oilers second straight win. Chicago’s at 4-2 on the season, with all four wins coming after an 0-2 start. The Blackhawks are wrapping up a four-game home stand in which they are undefeated in, last taking the ice Tuesday in a 4-2 win over Florida.

Puck drop at United Center goes at 8:30 p.m. EDT, with Edmonton a massive -220 moneyline favourite on the road and the over-under at 6.5 on the NHL odds.

Edmonton’s won their lone road game this season, and with Thursday being their second road gamn and Chicago being 3-0 at home, someone’s losing an undefeated steak. Edmonton’s dropped their past five visits to Chicago, falling 4-3 in overtime in their single trip to Illinois last season. The over is also 7-2 in the last nine Edmonton–Chicago contests.

Both teams are averaging over 3.3 goals per game this season, with Edmonton eighth in the NHL with 3.57 goals a night. Ultimately, Chicago’s surprisingly good start has more so to do with the defence of goals — the Blackhawks are allowing fewer than 2.9 goals a game which is a top 10 number in the NHL. Their next test is a loaded Oilers attack.

Backup Stuart Skinner got the nod, and first-star honours with 37 saves in last night in St. Louis. The game was Stuart’s second appearance this season, and his first win. That likely means Jack Campbell will take the crease in Chicago as Edmonton’s in a back-to-back situation.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Zach Hyman, and Jesse Puljujarvi all scored in the win. Nugent-Hopkins has scored a goal in four of Edmonton’s last five games. Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid each recorded an assist in the win. The duo’s back at the top of Edmonton’s points leaders as Draisatil has a point in six of Edmonton’s seven games, and multi-point nights in four of the seven games. McDavid’s got two four-point games on the season, a.k.a. normal McDavid things.

Chicago Blackhawks

Alex Stalock has been lights out in four appearances in net for Chicago this season, including all of their last three wins. Stalock’s .938 save percentage so far is miles better than his .909 average in 156 career appearances. Expect Stalock to go again Thursday against the Oilers.

Veteran forwards Tyler Johnson and Jason Dickinson lead the club so far with six points, Dickinson doing his damage in just four games played. New Blackhawk Max Domi and long-time captain Jonathan Toews are atop the team with three goals each, as both centre Chicago’s top two lines. Domi has Patrick Kane on his right wing, while Johnson’s skating on Toews’ left wing on the second line.
