Game 4 Oilers vs. Blackhawks Prediction: Stanley Cup Qualifier Odds
Connor McDavid continues to look like he is in a league of his own after picking up yet another goal despite a losing effort by the Oilers, 4-3 on Wednesday night.
The Blackhawks stunned the Oilers and have now pushed them to the brink of elimination with their Game 3 comeback win. This has been a back-and-forth series so Edmonton will be looking to swing the momentum back in their favour for Game 4 on Friday at 6:45 p.m. ET.
Oilers vs. Blackhawks NHL Playoffs Odds
It puts a little salt in the wounds of Oilers fans to have the Blackhawks win Game 3 after suiting up under the oil drop logo in the Edmonton dressing room as the home team. If the Oilers can’t win as the road team on Friday they will have a short trip home, but a long offseason of disappointment.
The Oilers opened at -143 on the NHL odds board to win Game 4 with a total of 6.5 goals. The high scoring series has seen the first three games all go over the total.
Edmonton Oilers
You can’t blame the NHL’s top two scorers, Leon Draisaitl (3G, 3A in series) and Connor McDavid (5G, 2A in series), for the position the Oilers have put themselves in. Draisaitl is averaging two points per game and the Blackhawks still can’t find a way to stop or even slow down McDavid’s big time goals, but the two superstars need help and depth scoring.
A lack of discipline hurt the Oilers in Game 3, taking seven penalties in the first two periods and blowing a 3-2 lead with less than six minutes left in the game. Locking down defensively and getting depth scoring from players like Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (1G, 6A in series) and James Neal (2G in series) is key for Game 4. Oilers goalie Mikko Koskinen has stopped 62 of 70 shots faced in the first three games of the series.
Chicago Blackhawks
Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews continues to turn back the clock on his career and lead this veteran group after scoring twice, including the game-winner, in Game 3. He now has four goals and one assist in the series.
Contributions throughout the lineup have been the difference maker for the ‘Hawks. Rookie Dominik Kubalik hasn’t reached the score sheet since his five-point performance in Game 1 but fellow rookie Kirby Dach’s four assists in the series have helped him become the first Blackhawks player to score a point in his first three playoff games since Eddie Olczyk in 1985. It’s this combination of veteran and rookie contribution that have the Blackhawks on the verge of their first playoff berth since 2017.
