Edmonton Oilers vs. Colorado Avalanche Prediction, NHL Odds
Colorado is a -180 favourite on the NHL odds with a total of 6.5 goals the probably gets to the rare number of 7 by puck drop.
Oilers vs. Avalanche NHL Betting Odds
It’s not too often you will see a total of seven in an NHL game, but this one likely deserves one with Colorado leading the NHL in scoring at 3.79 goals per game and Edmonton third at 3.55 GPG. The Oilers are No. 1 on the power play at 32.8 per cent.
Both have Hart Trophy and Art Ross Trophy candidates in the Avalanche’s Nathan MacKinnon and Oilers’ Connor McDavid, two big parts of Canada’s silver-medal winning team in the Italy Olympics. McDavid leads the NHL with 108 points, while MacKinnon is second with 104 but leads in goals with 43.
Colorado is running away with the Central Division title and Western Conference’s top seed. If Edmonton doesn’t finish Top 3 in the Pacific Division and drops to the West’s final wild-card spot, these two would meet in Round 1 of the Stanley Cup playoffs and that would be a shame in that it would be too early. To win the West, the Avs are +165 favourites and the Oilers +600.
Tonight marks the second of three meetings between the clubs and only one in Denver. On Nov. 8 in Edmonton, the Avalanche rolled, 9-1, behind two goals and two assists from MacKinnon. Colorado is 6-4 in the past 10 meetings overall, and the over-under is 5-5.
Edmonton Oilers
Edmonton hasn’t won back-to-back game since the end of January but tries again Tuesday following a 4-2 victory in Vegas on Sunday – outscoring the Golden Knights 3-1 in the third. Connor McDavid had two assists to extend his road points streak to 19 games. The longest such streak over the past 40 years was 29 in a row by Wayne Gretzky in 1986-87. Evan Bouchard extended his assist streak to seven games, tying the longest run of his career (also 7 GP in 2023-24). The team record is 17 in a row by Hall of Famer Paul Coffey in 1985-86. Centre Adam Henrique (10 points) is in question after sitting Sunday with a knee injury. Connor Ingram started Sunday in net and stopped 24 of 26 shots to improve to 3-3-0 with a 2.52 GAA on the road. With Tristan Jarry struggling so badly, it likely will be Ingram again Tuesday. The over is 6-1 in the Oilers’ past seven games.
Colorado Avalanche
The Avalanche have lost once out of the Olympic break and enter on a five-game winning streak following a 3-2 home shootout win over Minnesota on Sunday. Nathan MacKinnon had his league-leading 43rd goal in regulation and then scored the shootout winner. Nazem Kadri collected an assist on MacKinnon’s opening goal in his first game back with the Avalanche after the trade from Calgary. The Avs reached 50 home points in just 31 games, tied for their second-fewest in team history after 30 games in 2021-22. Colorado is without two top-six forwards in Gabriel Landeskog (29 points) and Artturi Lehkonen (42 points) due to injury. The team is in such a good position in terms of leading for the West’s top seed that it can afford to perhaps rest any guys down the stretch to ensure health for the post-season. Scott Wedgewood started Sunday, so it’s likely Mackenzie Blackwood tonight. The Thunder Bay native is 9-4-0 at home with a 2.28 GAA. The Avalanche are 7-3 in their past 10 on home ice in this series.
