New Jersey Devils vs. Edmonton Oilers

Date: Friday, November 3rd – 9:00 PM ET
Location: Rogers Place, Edmonton, Alberta
NHL Odds: Oilers -165

NHL Odds and Betting Analysis

The Oilers have won five and lost three of their last eight meetings with the Devils, including both games last season. Five of the meetings have gone under the posted total, with one game landing on a push. Six of the games had a posted total of five goals even.

New Jersey Devils

The Devils are 9-2-0 after kicking off their road trip with a 2-0 win in Vancouver on Wednesday. Jimmy Hayes and Drew Stafford scored for the Devils, with Cory Schneider stopping 37 shots. Hall assisted on both of the New Jersey goals and he’ll be looking forward to going back to Edmonton. He was selected first overall by the Oilers in 2010 and stayed until 2016 when he was traded to the Devils. Hall had an assist in his return to Edmonton in January, which the Oilers won 3-2 in overtime.

As a team, the Devils are clicking on all cylinders, ranking fifth in goals scored and 10th in goals against, and also fifth on the power play and 14th in penalty killing. Hall leads the team in points with 15 on three goals and 12 assists, while Will Butcher has 11 assists for the Devils. Schneider has been great between the pipes, going 6-1-0 with a GAA of 2.84 and a save percentage of .921.

Edmonton Oilers

The Oilers are 3-7-1 after a 3-2 loss to Pittsburgh at home in the third of a five-game home stand. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Leon Draisaitl found the back of the net for the Oilers, with Connor McDavid assisting on both goals. However, the Oilers are in a freefall to start the season and they need to turn it around quickly. They’re poor at both ends of the ice, ranking 31st in goals scored and 23rd in goals against, and they’re 29th on the power play and 30th in penalty killing. This is a team that looks like it was burdened with the pressure of being a Stanley Cup favorite based on one good season and nothing seems to be working for them. They have been really bad at home, going 2-5-0 and that isn’t nearly good enough for this rabid fan base.

McDavid is kind of doing this part with five goals and eight assists, but when you consider guys like Evgenii Dadonov and Brayden Point have more points than him this season, you can see that he’s not playing at an MVP-type of level. He looks like he is under a lot of pressure and something needs to happen with the Oilers before the wheels fall off. It is still November, so there is plenty of time to turn things around.

Devils vs. Oilers prediction:

Devils 4-1
