Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Ottawa Senators Prediction, NHL Odds

The Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators wrap up their regular season schedules when they meet on Wednesday night in an NHL betting matchup at Canadian Tire Centre.

The Maple Leafs close out a lost season riding a six-game losing streak and can strengthen their bid to finish among the bottom five in the NHL standings with yet another loss in the final date on their schedule.

Locked in as the second wild card in the East, the Senators return home on the heels of Sunday’s 4-3 loss in New Jersey, but have won eight of their past 10 on home ice including each of their past three.

The Senators have emerged as steady -189 home favourites on Wednesday’s NHL odds. The Maple Leafs trail as +154 moneyline underdogs in their season finale, and the total is pegged at 6.5.

Maple Leafs vs. Senators NHL Betting Odds

The Senators have taken two of three of the Maple Leafs this season, capped by a 5-2 home victory on March 21 and have now topped the Buds in eight of 10 regular season matchups since December 2023 including three straight wins on home ice.

The Sens have regularly made a statement when facing Toronto, with seven of their eight recent head-to-head wins coming by multi-goal margins, and have seen the OVER pay out in totals betting in each of their three dates this season.

The Senators have also enjoyed a scoring touch during their late-season drive into playoff contention, potting four goals per game while winning five of their past seven, and 4.40 goals per game over their past five home dates.

That is bad news for the Leafs, who have been regularly lit up during their race to the bottom of the Atlantic Division standings, allowing 5.13 goals per game while losing seven of eight, but have scored 3.75 goals per game over their past four road dates.

Toronto Maple Leafs

While the Sens rest up ahead of the postseason, every Leafs player will be playing for their job in Wednesday’s contest. Of course, William Nylander has maintained a torrid pace under tough circumstances. The slick Swede has scored three times and added two helpers over the past two games and has recorded a goal and four assists over his past five road appearances.

John Tavares halted his three-game goalscoring drought by bulging the twine in Monday’s 6-5 loss to Dallas, and has generated five goals and five assists in seven games. Tavares has also scored twice versus Ottawa this season and offers upside as a -160 bet on the NHL player props to record at least one point on Wednesday.

Dennis Hildeby will get the call between the pipes on Wednesday. The 24-year-old netminder has been toiling in the minors, and has compiled a 9-8-5 record with a 2.70 goals against average and .896 save percentage in 22 appearances with the AHL Toronto Marlies.

Ottawa Senators

The Senators rested many of their key players in Sunday’s date with the Devils including Brady Tkachuk, Tim Stutzle, Jake Sanderson, and Thomas Chabot. And with nothing on the line in Wednesday’s season finale, the club is expected to once again suit up their B-squad.

Shane Pinto proved to be the biggest beneficiary of the club’s decision to rest starters in new Jersey. Pinto scored once while seeing 21:33 of ice time, tops among Sens forwards, and has now recorded four goals and two assists in seven April contests.

Rookie forward Stephen Halliday enjoyed a chance to see plenty of power play action in just his second appearance since February, skating for 3:57 with the extra man. Halliday has picked up just a single point in his past eight appearances, but earned a late-season performance by producing at a point per game clip with AHL Belleville and could end that drought against a Leafs squad that has regularly surrendered power play goals.

With a goal on Sunday, Michael Amadio has now tallied three points in two games. Veteran Claude Giroux has recorded two points in three games and three points in his past two dates with the Lefas.
