Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Montreal Canadiens Game 6 Prediction, NHL Odds
The Canadiens reclaimed the series lead and home-ice advantage with a hard-fought 3-2 victory in Tampa Bay on Wednesday night, and are now poised to close out their first playoff series in a non-Covid format since 2015. With Wednesday’s defeat, the Lightning now face the prospect of getting bounced from the NHL playoffs in the first round for a fourth straight year. In addition to never leading in this series, the Lightning must also meet the challenge of posting consecutive wins for the first time in 10 postseason road contests if they are to force a seventh and deciding game on Sunday night in Tampa Bay.
With all five games to date in this series getting settled by a single goal, these clubs are neck and neck on Friday’s NHL playoff odds, with the Lightning perched as slender -115 road favourites while the Canadiens closely trail at -105, and the total is pegged at 5.5. However, the Habs have emerged as clear -250 chalk on the NHL series prices, while the Lightning lag as +200 longshots to rebound and win this matchup of Atlantic Division rivals.
Lightning vs. Canadiens NHL Betting Odds
After being a healthy scratch for the first four games of this season, Brendan Gallagher made his presence felt quickly, opening the scoring just three minutes into Game 5. And the Habs never looked back. While the Lightning would twice rebound to tie the game, they have manage to claim a lead for under 13 total minutes over the past three games, and have yet to take a lead into the third period in the first five games of the series. Indeed, low scoring has a been a recurring theme when these teams meet, with the total topping 5.0 just once in seven overall clashes in 2026. That lack of dominance has finally caught up with the Lightning on the NHL futures, where they have tumbled to a +800 bet to win the East and a lengthy +1600 wager on the Stanley Cup odds. Conversely, the Canadiens now trail only Carolina as a +450 bet on the Eastern Conference futures and now lead the best of the rest as a +1100 wager to record their first Stanley cup victory since 1993.
Tampa Bay Lightning
While the Lightning managed to outshoot Montreal by a 40-24 margin, the club’s biggest stars continued to struggle to find the mark. Jake Guentzel potted his second goal in as many games, and has racked up eight points while cracking the scoresheet in all five games to date, and 10 points overall during a seven-game points streak, making him worth backing as a +115 bet on the NHL player props to record at least one helper on Friday night. However, the Habs were finally able to shut down Brandon Hagel, who scored six goals during the first four clashes of the series including the winning marker in Game 4. Hagel and Nikita Kucherov were not without their chances, with the duo recording five and eight shots on goal, respectively. But this team could use more secondary scoring after seeing Guentzel and Hagel account for eight of their 13 total goals through Game 5.
Montreal Canadiens
For the Canadiens, secondary scoring proved to be the key to success in Game 5, with role players Kirby Dach, Alexandre Texier, and Brendan Gallagher finding the mark. There is no denying that Gallagher’s early goal gave this club a huge lift, and while the 33-year-old now finds himself getting fourth-line minutes, his experience and veteran presence should be enough to earn him a spot in Friday’s lineup. Dach has struggled to live up to expectations since arriving in Montreal during the offseason in 2022. But the former third overall pick in the NHL Draft has stepped up in the past three games with two goals and an assist, while Texier has generated two goals and two helpers during a three-game surge including the game winner in Game 5. None of this eases the pressure on the trio of Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Ivan Demidov, who have combined to produce just one total goal in the series. But with Game 6 likely to be another hard-fought affair, role players could prove to be the difference.
