Kings vs. Golden Knights: Game 2 Prediction, NHL Playoffs Odds
The Vegas Golden Knights celebrated their first taste of NHL playoff action the right way – with a victory. The Golden Knights now have the upper hand – both in the series, and in oddsmakers’ eyes – and will look to make it a two-game advantage Friday night as they entertain the Kings in this NHL matchup. Shea Theodore scored and Marc-Andre Fleury turned aside all 30 shots he faced as Vegas sent fans into a tizzy with a 1-0 triumph in the opener of the best-of-seven set.
Kings vs Golden Knights Betting Analysis
The series was a virtual coin flip to oddsmakers prior to Game 1, but the Golden Knights’ victory has them at -226 to advance to the second round in their first season of existence. And they’re bigger favorites in Game 2 than they were in the opener, and with good reason: They’ve won 11 of their previous 12 home games against teams with winning road records. The Kings need to rebound – and it won’t be easy, having dropped four of their previous five road outings.
The low-scoring opener has oddsmakers shaving a half-point off the total, dropping it to 5. Vegas has gone below the total in six of its previous seven home games, while the Kings are 1-4 O/U in their past five contests away from Staples Center. But Friday the 13th presents a crazy trend collision for these teams: Los Angeles has gone under in nine of its last 10 Friday games, while Vegas is 13-0 O/U – you read that right – in its past 13 Friday contests.
Los Angeles Kings
While the Kings entered the postseason armed with the league’s best goal prevention, scoring has been a bit of an issue; Los Angeles finished in the middle of the pack in goals per game and power-play success rate. But that power play has been dismal of late, converting just once in its previous 14 man-advantage opportunities – including an 0-for-3 showing Wednesday night. The Kings have won six straight games in which they have scored at least one power-play goal.
Vegas Golden Knights
Fleury couldn’t have imagined his first season in Vegas would be this big a success. Despite battling injuries during the season, the long-time Pittsburgh Penguins netminder has been sensational, going 29-13-4 with a 2.24 GAA and a .927 save percentage for the expansion Golden Knights. And Vegas has rallied around his sensational goaltending, winning 23 of their previous 33 games after allowing fewer than two goals in their previous contest.
