The Jets head to Ottawa on Tuesday for the first of two games in the nation’s capital, before the teams move finish the three game series in Winnipeg.  The Jets are coming off a disappointing 3-1 loss to the Leafs on Monday, while Ottawa is rested after splitting a two-game set with Toronto, this past weekend.

Winnipeg is a -114 favourite on the NHL odds for this game, with a total of 6 goals.

Jets vs. Senators Betting Analysis

Winnipeg swept the two-game season series against the Senators, last year. Patrik Laine scored three power play goals in the Jets’ 5-2 win in Winnipeg, while Mark Scheifele had three power play goals of his own in Winnipeg’s 5-1 win in Ottawa.

Sports Interaction bettors seem to think last night’s game against Toronto was a one-off for the Jets. Winnipeg is seeing 61 per cent of the action, while the over/under is split down the middle at 50 per cent.

The Jets have won six of the last eight games against Ottawa and the over is 4-1 in the last five gams between these teams.

Winnipeg Jets

Monday’s game against Toronto marked the first of six games in nine nights for the Jets and if that game is any indication of how this stretch will go, Winnipeg could be in trouble. On the surface it doesn’t look like the Jets’ 3-1 loss to Toronto was all that bad. It was a close score and it even took an empty net goal for the Leafs to seal the deal. One stat, however, that explains the game perfectly is the second period shots. Winnipeg was outshot 22-6 in the period, including 19-1 in the first half of the second period, alone. Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck made 35 saves on 37 shots in the game and kept his team alive, but the reigning Vezina Trophy winner could only do so much.

Kyle Connor looks dialed in for the Jets through the first two games of the season, picking up a goal and two assists in Winnipeg’s season opening 4-3 overtime win over Calgary and he scored the Jets’ lone goal against Toronto on Monday. After a great first game that saw him finish with two goals, including the OT winner, and an assist, Patrik Laine didn’t play Monday because of an undisclosed injury. It’s hard to see him being healthy enough to play 24 hours later, but he’s still listed as day-to-day so anything is possible. Hellebuyck also likely won’t play, so Laurent Brossoit should see his first action of the season. Brossoit had a 6-7-1 record, last season, finishing with a 3.28 goals-against average and an .895 save percentage.

Ottawa Senators

Pegged by nearly everyone, before the season, to finish last in the North Division, the Senators showed they’re not the same team as last year, splitting their opening two-game series with Toronto. Ottawa spent the off-season completely retooling their roster and it seems to be paying off. The biggest addition was two-time Stanley Cup winning goalie Matt Murray, who made 20 saves in a 5-3 win and 37 saves in a 3-2 loss in the two-game set with the Leafs. The Sens also upgraded their offence by signing Evgenii Dadonov and trading for Derek Stepan. Dadanov put up 81 goals over the last three seasons in Florida, while Stepan is a valuable veteran centre, who can stabilize Ottawa’s core of young players.

The most hyped addition for Ottawa, however, is 2020 third-overall draft pick Tim Stutzle. The Sens seem to be easing Stutzle into things, but this is the same player who picked up a point on 13 of Germany’s 14 goals in the World Junior Championship, so it’s likely only a matter of time before Ottawa structures their offence around him. With the Sens’ new off-season additions and the already-established young core of Brady Tkachuk, Thomas Chabot and Connor Brown, this is a Senators team poised to surprise people.
