For the fifth time this season, the Winnipeg Jets and the Calgary Flames are set to face off.  Three of the four previous games have been decided by a single goal with two games needing extra time.

Calgary is a -135 favourite to win on the NHL odds with a total of 6.0.

Jets vs. Flames Betting Analysis

The season is young, but these teams have already met four times since opening night.  Winnipeg has had the Flames’ number, taking down Calgary three times and outscoring them 14-10.  It’s a closer season series than it looks though, as two of the four games have needed extra time to solve.

All four games between these teams this season, have been in Winnipeg, but the series is now shifting to Calgary, a city the Jets have struggled in.  Winnipeg has lost five of their last seven games at the Saddledome and they have been an Under team in four of their last five road games overall.  The Jets have rewarded bettors against the spread, covering in nine of 11 games, this season.

This has been a historically low scoring series.  The total has gone Under in eight of the last 11 games between these teams.  Calgary has been fairly even at hitting the Over this year, going 5-5-1 O/U.  The Flames are 6-5 ATS overall, but they have covered in all five of their home games.

Winnipeg Jets

The biggest story of this game is undoubtedly, Pierre-Luc Dubois.  After a very public and messy split from the Blue Jackets resulted in a trade to Winnipeg, Dubois is out of mandatory quarantine and ready to make his Winnipeg debut on Tuesday.  Dubois gives the Jets some of the best depth down the middle of any team in the NHL.  Winnipeg now has Dubois, Mark Scheifele, Paul Stastny and Adam Lowry as options at centre.  In his first practice with the team, Dubois centred a line with Trevor Lewis and the leading Jets goal scorer, Kyle Connor.

It’s been a rare four day break between games for Winnipeg.  The Jets have been off since last Thursday’s 4-1 win over Calgary.  Mason Appleton had two goals in the win, while Scheifele and Connor also found the back of the net.  Mathieu Perreault picked up three assists and Connor Hellebuyck stopped 23 of 24 shots.  Scheifele leads the team with 14 points (5G, 9A) and Connor has a team-best seven goals (12 points).

Calgary Flames

Suffering from a lack of offensive depth this season, the Flames finally picked up some much needed secondary scoring on Saturday.  In Calgary’s 6-4 win over Edmonton, six different Flames players tickled the twine, including leading point and goal scorer Johnny Gaudreau.  Coming off a tough statistical season, Gaudreau has 13 points (7G, 6A) in 11 games, this year.  Mikael Backlund also had a big game against the Oilers, finishing with a goal and two assists.  There were six Flames players who finished with multi-point games.

Sam Bennett, who had his trade request become public, scored his first goal of the season on Saturday after sitting as a healthy scratch in the previous game.  Jacob Markstrom stopped 28 of 32 shots in the win.  Markstrom is 5-3-1 on the season with a 2.55 goals against average and .914 save percentage.
