Winnipeg Jets vs. Washington Capitals Prediction, NHL Odds
Wednesday night in the NHL is full of action-packed hockey, including a matchup between the Winnipeg Jets and Washington Capitals. Both teams came into this season with strong expectations from themselves and the outside, but neither has taken the bull by the horns just yet.
Both teams are highly capable, led by guys like Alex Ovechkin and Mark Scheifele, and it should make for a great contest. We have provided our Jets vs. Capitals preview and prediction to get you set.
Winnipeg is a -150 favourite to win on the NHL odds, with the total set at 6.5.
Jets vs. Capitals NHL Betting Odds
The Winnipeg Jets and Washington Capitals play twice per season. In the last three seasons, it has been tight, but the Capitals have produced a stronger record of 3-1-2.
ATS (against the spread), Winnipeg is 10-11 while Washington is 12-11. In the game totals, Winnipeg is 12-9-0 to the Over while Washington is 11-12-0.
Winnipeg Jets
The Winnipeg Jets have posted a 12-9-0 record, and while they’re above .500, they are just fifth in the Central Division and are outside a playoff spot. The entire league seems quite close, so they are obviously within striking distance, but it is up to them to secure the points and move up where they expect to be.
Winnipeg was just given major injury news, as starting goaltender and usual Vezina Trophy contender Connor Hellebuyck has been placed on IR. Their defence corps is also banged up, with Haydn Fleury still on IR, and Neal Pionk day-to-day.
They are on the road in this matchup, but should be able to stay competitive, potentially winning as significant underdogs.
Washington Capitals
The Washington Capitals have posted a similar record to Winnipeg at 12-9-2, and they are also within striking distance in the Metropolitan Division, sitting in fourth. Right now, there is no room for error, and on home ice, they will be looking to perform well.
Forward Pierre-Luc Dubois has been out since the start of November, as he is on IR for the next three-to-four months. However, the team has been healthy otherwise and has looked good without him so far.
Washington has won four of the past five games and owns a 4-1-1 record in their last six. They are welcoming a tough opponent and will have to prove they are up to the test.
NHL Prediction: Who Will Win Jets vs. Capitals?
The odds are heavily in Washington’s favour to win this matchup, but I see it as more of a coin flip. What I expect to see in this one is a plethora of goals.
The NHL’s best goaltender is out with an injury for Winnipeg, and their defensive core is banged up. Washington has been scoring at will with 23 goals in their last four games, and should be able to score again. Winnipeg is also strong offensively with the 11th-best goals per game average, and should add to the total. I expect to see a 5-3 final for the Washington Capitals.
