Winnipeg Jets vs. Vancouver Canucks Prediction, NHL Odds

The postseason looks bleak for both teams. But until the final whistle blows, they will leave it all out on the ice.

Unfortunately, both teams have had bouts with the injury bug this year and will be missing key players in this matchup. That provides an opportunity for several players to showcase their value to their organization and fans. There is still plenty to watch for in this game.

Jets vs. Canucks NHL Betting Odds

The Jets are -135 favourites and are +180 to cover a -1.5 puck line tonight. That gives the Canucks +115 on the money line as underdogs. The game total is set at 6.0; the Over sits at -120, and the Under has a +100 price. While poor form was not unique to Vancouver, Winnipeg is still the better, healthier team. There are no surprises on the line.

Winnipeg has dropped five out of its last seven games, but has won eight out of the last 10 played against Vancouver. The trends further favour the Jets, considering the Canucks have just two wins in their last 19 games and two wins in their last 14 played at home.

Winnipeg Jets

Winnipeg finds itself four games under .500 with 25 games remaining, leaving them 11 points out of a playoff spot with five teams to jump. Things will not get easier with an injury sustained to their best defenceman, Josh Morrissey.

Winnipeg’s poor results have been surprising, given they have largely the same team that ran away with the Presidents’ Trophy last year. They have the best goalie in the world, which was just reaffirmed at the Olympics; they have three 20+ goal scorers, and four players with 40+ points, including Morrissey. Despite adversity, Winnipeg has a favourable matchup tonight.

Vancouver Canucks

A three-week break was a nice reprieve for some Canucks fans who just want the season to be over. Rightfully so. Vancouver has been the worst team in the NHL by a significant margin, has traded impact players, and has sustained injuries to remaining key players. Their current lack of depth will be difficult to overcome against most teams in hockey.

The poor form entering the break has been touched on. The Canucks just do not have enough talent to compete, which is normal for a rebuilding team. Vancouver has scored two goals in each of their last six games, having been outscored a combined 22-12 during that stretch. They have their work cut out for them again tonight.

NHL Prediction: Who Will Win Jets vs. Canucks?

Could the Olympic break have rejuvenated the Canucks enough to win tonight? Sure. It could have. But they are too far from reliable to take that chance with hard-earned dollars. The next closest team to Vancouver at the bottom of the standings is still seven points clear. Until or unless they catch any kind of fire down the stretch, the Canucks are a good fade.

To reiterate, the Jets still have plenty of top-end players, highlighted by Mark Scheifele, Kyle Connor, and Gabriel Vilardi, among other strong players. Winnipeg’s team makeup is that of a team that does not mail it in until the clock hits zero. Look for a strong effort from a refreshed Jets group to win 4-2 tonight.
