Winnipeg Jets vs. St. Louis Blues Prediction, NHL Odds

Winnipeg is contesting for the top spot in the Central Division. As for the Blues, they’ve been singing it a lot lately and look to build a winning streak.

Winnipeg is a 1.5-point favourite for this contest on the NHL odds. The over-under is 6.0 goals.

Jets vs. Blues NHL Betting Odds

The Manitoban outfit has had its way with St. Louis over the past two seasons, winning four contests in a row. Moreover, scoring has come with relative ease in that span, with the Jets netting no less than four goals every time. The 4-0 vanquishing over a month ago was a microcosm of how each organization’s season has gone thus far.

Any explanation as to why Craig Berube’s troupe has only mustered a 10-16 record against the spread begins and ends with two troubling losing streaks they’ve suffered. In late October a string of eight consecutive defeats began. Then, right up until Tuesday night, the same thing almost happened again, as the Blues knelt in defeat six times in seven games. The team covered the spread a grand total of zero times in all those losses.

Winnipeg’s impressive 15-9 showing ATS very closely reflects their 16-7-1 in the standings. The team is currently flying high, having covered five of their six most recent spreads. What’s more, they covered them easily, winning by no less than three goals in the last four games. This streak began by beating Dallas – the very team they’re challenging for the division – as underdogs.

Winnipeg Jets

Speaking of poor defensive performances and goaltending, Winnipeg has mercilessly pounced on those in recent weeks. Except for a 4-1 defeat to Columbus, the Jets have scored at least four goals in five of the previous six contests. One can argue that they feasted on weak opposition, but a team can only play who’s on its schedule.

The more recent success story was Tuesday night at home to the once mighty Florida Panthers. Familiar faces Mark Scheifele and Kyle Connor each cashed in on opportunities twice in a comfortable 5-2 victory. It was the sort of game that was never really in doubt despite that the Panthers outshot the Jets. Goalie Connor Hellebuyck deserves a lot of credit for the team’s success this year. A 2.26 GAA and a .932 SV have earned him a firm spot as a top-5 NHL netminder.

St. Louis Blues

In some respects, the Blues’ 7-4 win over the Islanders on Tuesday assuaged some of the frustrations that bubbled during the preceding four-game losing streaking. After settling for a 1-1 game at the end of the second period, St. Louis erupted with four unanswered scores over the next two periods. Ryan O’Reilly’s marker, which made it 3-1, exemplified the grit and determination they needed to do away with their demons.

But after Noel Acciari and Colton Parayko made it 5-1 thirteen seconds apart in the third, a familiar woe reared its head: an inability to keep the puck out of their own net. Before they knew it, it was a 5-4 game. The Blues are among the worst defensive teams in the NHL: 29th in goals conceded per game, 25th in goalie save percentage, and 28th in total goals allowed. Believe it or not, they’ve incredibly conceded no less than four goals in eight straight games. Will the real Jordan Binnington please stand up?
