Islanders vs. Oilers NHL Betting Odds

The Oilers will be out for revenge tonight after Islanders’ goalie Ilya Sorokin’s 49-save performance led New York to a 3-0 win in their first meeting of the season back in November. The Islanders scored three goals in the second period with Jean-Gabriel Pageau notching a shorthanded goal and another on the powerplay as well as defenceman Sebastian Aho just before the end of the frame.

That game was the third straight meeting to play the Under after meeting twice last season with each team taking a win.

The Islanders’ offence exploded for six goals in their last outing, snapping a streak of four straight that played the Under, pushing their record on the Over/Under to 19-18-2 on the season. They boast the fifth-best record against the spread so far, covering in 23 of 39 games and six times in their past 10.

One of the league’s most dynamic offences, Edmonton has had trouble putting the puck in the recently, being held to two goals or less in four of their past five games. Only three teams have played the Over more times than the Oilers, who have a 23-12-4 record on the O/U. They are looking to even their 19-20 record ATS and have only covered three of their past nine.

New York Islanders

The Islanders scored six goals for just the fourth time this season Tuesday night in a 6-2 win in Vancouver. Mathew Barzal led the way offensively scoring a goal and notching two assists, while Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored a pair of goals for the second time this season. Ilya Sorokin stopped 24 of 26 shots for his 14th win of the season as he continues to dominate the league goaltending stats this season.

Barzal has now scored in four consecutive games increasing his team lead in points to 40 (10G 30A) in 39 games. He is on pace for 84 points this season which would be one less than his career-high, set back in 2017-18.

The win was their fourth in their past five games and snapped a three-game road losing streak, bumping their record on the road to 10-9-2. A win tonight could tie them for third place in the very tight Metropolitan Division.

Edmonton Oilers

The Oilers suffered their second loss in a row Tuesday night 5-2 versus the Seattle Kraken. They got off on the right foot, thanks to Ryan Nugent-Hopkins getting the league’s top powerplay on the board followed by Connor McDavid scoring early in the second after having his 17-game point streak snapped the game before. The 2-0 lead would only last about four minutes before the Kraken came storming back, scoring four straight goals in the second before adding an empty netter in the third for a 5-2 final.

Leon Draisaitl returned to the lineup after missing two games with an oblique strain but was held off the score sheet after a coach’s challenge determined his third-period goal was offside.

Goalie Stuart Skinner was pulled from the game after the fourth goal on 20 shots and was replaced by Jack Campbell. Skinner will get a chance to redeem himself Thursday and is listed as the likely starter.

The loss was their fifth in a row on home ice and bumped their record at Rogers Place to 9-11-1.
