Carolina Hurricanes vs. Winnipeg Jets Prediction, NHL Odds

This is a big heavyweight tilt. The Hurricanes sit atop the Eastern Conference with 28 points entering Thursday, while the Jets are third in the Central Division and among the Western Conference’s top teams with 24 points. Although there is a lot of hockey remaining this year, these teams could very well finish atop their conferences.

Both teams have six wins in their last 10 games, both teams were the favourite in all six wins, and both teams split those six wins among three on the road and three at home. There is not a ton that separates these juggernauts at the moment, making this game a must-watch for hockey fans.

Carolina is a -150 favourite to win on the NHL odds, with the total set at 6.5.

Hurricanes vs. Jets NHL Betting Odds

Carolina is 6-1-2 in its last nine games, including 3-0-1 on the road over that span as part of a 7-3-1 road record on the season. After a 3-3 start at home, the Jets have since won three consecutive at home. This is the second of a three-game homestand for the Jets, which is welcomed after going 2-4 on a recent road trip.

Unsurprisingly, any advantage in home-road splits looks to be neutralized by the opposing team’s comfort in any arena. The slim margin of error between these teams could come down to depth, of which both teams have a plethora. Winnipeg has three players averaging over a point per game, and Carolina has eight players with double-digit points. Both teams are top-six in the NHL in goals scored per game. The big guns will be needed in this matchup.

Carolina Hurricanes

The Hurricanes have two wins in their last five games played. Last time Carolina hit a bit of a rut, it bounced back just fine with four consecutive wins. The Hurricanes are not exactly worried at the moment, but they will make a push to get back in the win column.

The primary reason the Hurricanes are not panicking right now is because they have a four-game point streak. Their last two losses have been beyond regulation and were to strong opponents. Even though Carolina faces a tough opponent in Winnipeg, the ‘Canes shouldn’t be pressing at all to collect two points.

Winnipeg Jets

The Jets hit a bit of a rut themselves in November. After a very good 9-3 start, Winnipeg has since gone 3-4. Fortunately for them, those three wins have been in their last four games. They also salvaged two wins in their last three games of a road trip before winning their first game back at home on Tuesday.

Despite Winnipeg’s top line of Mark Scheifele, Kyle Connor, and Gabriel Vilardi having a combined 65 points in 57 games, it has been defenceman Josh Morrissey lugging the mail lately. Morrissey has nine points in Winnipeg’s last five games, which is three points more than Carolina’s leading point scorer in its last five games, another defenceman, Shayne Gostisbehere. If Winnipeg’s top players show up, the Jets will be tough to beat.

NHL Prediction: Who Will Win Hurricanes vs. Jets?

In a game between a couple of great teams with a very thin margin of error, the Jets appear to have a bit more of an advantage. They had a tough start to a road trip, but the Jets are back on track, are at home, and have an extra day of rest. Even head-to-head, the Jets have won three out of the last four and four out of the last six played over the last couple of seasons. This has the makings of a fast, tight, one-goal game with the Jets coming out on top 3-2.
