Carolina Hurricanes vs. Philadelphia Flyers Prediction, NHL Odds
With a 3-0 death grip on the series, the Carolina Hurricanes go for back-to-back series sweeps in Round 2 versus the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Canes are looking to become the first team since the 1900s to go a perfect 8-0 in the playoffs on Saturday night. Despite their young roster, a clean sweep is not in the Philly DNA, who haven’t been swept since the 2011 playoffs. Game 4 has Carolina as the -190 road favourite on the NHL Odds. The OVER/UNDER is set at 5 goals even, with puck drop from Xfinity Mobile Arena set for 6:00 pm EST.
Hurricanes vs. Flyers NHL Betting Odds
The Flyers were held to two goals or fewer in every game this series and have conceded three or more in each game. They will need to take a huge step forward to be the first team to complete the reverse sweep since the 2014 LA Kings. Philly now finds themselves as the +2500 underdog to win the series.
One of the most impressive things about this Canes team is how the entire lineup is contributing offensively. Eight different goal scorers have chipped in on 10 goals for Carolina this series. Nikolaj Ehlers and Logan Stankoven are the only players with a pair in the series; take them at +150 and +115, respectively, to lead the series in goals.
With their backs against the wall, the Flyers will need to come out swinging on Saturday, especially their star players. Trevor Zegras got his first of the series in the last game, registering two shots on goal. After shooting four times in Game 2, the +250 payout on 3+ shots on Saturday looks promising.
Carolina Hurricanes
With a near-flawless run through the first seven games of the postseason, the Carolina Hurricanes are now the +165 favourite to win the Stanley Cup. Game 3 in Philly was the perfect example of why they might go all the way this year. The power-play got the party started, on a goal from Jordan Staal, his first of the postseason. Staal then added a helper on defenceman Jalen Chatfield’s shorthanded goal. In the third period, another power-play goal from Andrei Svechnikov (first), capped off with a Nikolaj Ehlers (second) breakaway snipe for a 4-1 final.
The goaltending was, of course, solid again in Game 3 as Frederik Andersen continues his ridiculous run this postseason. He has been so good in these playoffs that he has climbed to the second favourite to win the Conn Smythe Trophy at +400. If he continues this run and nobody else on the Canes really takes over scoring-wise, this could be a very interesting winner.
Philadelphia Flyers
After flying out of the gate in Game 2, Philadelphia had a much slower start to the game on Thursday. The contest was scoreless until the final two and a half minutes of the first period, with Carolina netting one on the power play. Trevor Zegras responded in the second period with his second goal of the postseason to tie things at one, before a shorthanded goal from the Hurricanes would steal all momentum.
The special teams battle was what really put the game to rest. Philly was 0-5 on the power-play and gave up a shorthanded goal, while giving the Hurricanes nine power-play opportunities, in which they cashed in twice. The Flyers were held to just 19 shots for the second time in the series and have only scored three times in the three games.
Things do look bleak for Philadelphia right now, but their desperation could turn a profit for bettors. Dan Vladar has stopped 27 and 39 shots in the last two games, and his OVER/UNDER on saves is set 5for 26.5. Rookie Porter Martone is proving to be an absolute dog with four points so far. A Martone point would double your money.
