Carolina Hurricanes vs. Arizona Coyotes Prediction, NHL Odds

These are not happy times for the Arizona Coyotes, its players, coaches, and arguably owner Alex Meruelo. Apart from the overarching storyline about where the Coyotes’ next NHL-quality arena might be located, the club itself is on a seven-game slide, most recently a 3-1 defeat to the Wild. The Carolina Hurricanes began a road trip earlier this week in Dallas, where the Stars tamed them 4-2.

Carolina has the edge on the NHL odds. Its pegged as -190 favourites on the moneyline.

Hurricanes vs. Coyotes NHL Betting Odds

The Hurricanes have largely blown through the desert dogs in recent years. The Raleigh-based franchise has defeated the Coyotes eight times over the last 10 contests. In five of those matches, Arizona failed to score more than one goal. Friday’s tilt concludes the two-game intra-conference series, with Carolina winning 3-1 at home on January 27.

The Canes are currently second in the Atlantic Division, but they have ways to go if they wish to usurp the Rangers for first place (eight points behind). Incidentally, the Hurricanes are just about as strong a defensive team (2.89 GAA, 12th) as they are an offensive one (3.31 goals per match, 11th). It hasn’t been a great year against the puckline line, however, not with a 20-32 record. They’ve only gone 4-6 in the last 10 tries. Don’t take their power play lightly. It’s second league-wide, operating at 27.5 per cent efficiency.

That will put the Coyotes’ 20th-ranked penalty kill to the test should they prove to be undisciplined. The seven-match losing streak has been rather ominous. In only one game did they score more than three goals and gave up at least five goals in four of them. Funnily, one of the closest games was a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the defending champs Golden Knights. Despite the negative vibes surrounding the club, betters can rest assured that Arizona is at least 27-25 ATS, although they’ve only covered two of their last six games.

Carolina Hurricanes

Carolina took to the south on Tuesday to commence a road trip with a pit stop in Dallas. Facing the Central Division-leading Stars was a tall order and although the Canes played a decent game, they fell 4-2.

It wasn’t for a lack of trying. As the club with the fifth-most shots on target in the NHL, Carolina did its usual business, peppering the Dallas goal 34 times through the game. That said, only Jordan Staal (seventh) and Jesper Fast (sixth) could get the better of Jake Oettinger. Defensive lapses largely explained how Roope Hintz scored the game-opener and Jason Robertson the game-winner in the third period. Give a good team like the Stars an inch and they’ll make you pay for it. Goalie Pyotr Kochetkov has had a nice season so far despite not playing up to his abilities on Tuesday. He doesn’t have much of a choice in the matter as Frederik Andersen and Antti Raanta remain injured.

Arizona Coyotes

The Coyotes were hoping that coming back home on Wednesday would provide relief for the losing streak that ailed them. Unfortunately, the Minnesota Wild had other plans.

Both clubs are desperately trying to nudge their way back into the playoff conversation. At puck drop the Wild were only two points ahead of the Coyotes. There was no fooling anyone on this night which team has a better chance at improving its lot. Minnesota was far and away the superior outfit. Things have gotten so bad for Arizona that even when it looks as though something nice is happening, the rug is pulled from under their feet. Goalie Connor Ingram’s excellent performance through two periods was undone by an injury that will have him out of action for seven to 10 days. Logan Cooley (seventh) scored the lone goal for the hosts in the third period to cut the deficit to 2-1, but that was as close as Arizona got, losing 3-1.

Cody Keller has earned at least a point in 12 of the team’s 17 games in 2024 so far.
