Carolina Hurricanes vs. Vancouver Canucks Prediction, NHL Odds

The Carolina Hurricanes and Vancouver Canucks clash on Wednesday night in the NHL. This is the second and final meeting of the season between two teams, who find themselves at very different positions in the standings.

When these teams met in November, we were treated to a tight 4-3 overtime win for Carolina. However, things may play out much differently the second time around.

Hurricanes vs. Canucks NHL Betting Odds

Vancouver comes into this game with a 27-33 record on the puckline, and is available tonight +1.5 at -115. Carolina, meanwhile, has been surprisingly poor at 22-38, and their -1.5 line is -105. This also comes with major moneyline favouritism at -290 for the Hurricanes on the NHL odds compared to the Canucks at +235.

These teams are used to seeing high-scoring games, with the Canucks at 32-25-3 to the over, while the Hurricanes are at 31-28-1. The total is set at 6.0 goals, with a slight favouring lean towards the over (-115) rather than the under (-105). Vancouver’s inability to keep the puck out of their net as of late may make the over an attractive play.

Four Hurricanes lead the way in goalscoring odds, that being Sebastian Aho (+150), Nikolaj Ehlers (+160), Seth Jarvis (+160), and Andrei Svechnikov (+190). The Canucks have only scored four goals in three games since the Olympic break, with half of them scored by Evander Kane (+400).

Carolina Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes (38-16-6) remain not only one of the formidable teams in the Eastern Conference, but the entire NHL. While they are coming off a 2-1 loss to the Seattle Kraken, they have gone an incredible 10-1-2 over their last 13 games. They now have a seven-point lead at the top of the Metropolitan Division.

This is an elite team that should give Vancouver issues in many aspects. Carolina boasts the sixth-highest scoring average (3.40), seventh-best goals-against average (2.80), top-ten penalty kill (80.8 per cent), and a near top-ten power play (21.9 per cent). This is just the tip of the iceberg in Carolina.

Playing on the road is no challenge for this squad, as they are 21-8-2 outside of their home arena in Raleigh. They are fully healthy, and are getting an excellent spread of contributions throughout their lineup. I expect this strength to show in full force.

Vancouver Canucks

An abysmal season continues for the Vancouver Canucks (18-35-7), as they seem destined to finish at the bottom of the league. Their 43 points is lowest in the NHL by a mile, with the next team 10 points ahead of them. A six-game winless streak (0-4-2) shows minimal signs of life, and what a challenge this game will be.

The Canucks have looked truly miserable in their last two games, losing both and being outscored 11-2. This game could be over before it starts if that trend continues, as Carolina scores at the sixth-highest rate of 3.40 goals per game.

Vancouver has a diminished roster with an extensive list of injuries, including Tyler Myers, Filip Chytil, Pierre-Olivier Joseph, and starter Thatcher Demko, who is out for the season. Even on home ice, it will be extremely difficult for their roster to match up to Carolina’s. A 6-18-5 record on home ice shows absolutely no help in their own building.

NHL Prediction: Who Will Win Hurricanes vs. Canucks?

Keep it simple when analyzing this game. The Hurricanes are just an absolute powerhouse compared to the Canucks, and it is not particularly close. Carolina does just about everything far better than their opponents, with elite special teams, a deep and competent offence, and a structured and frustrating defensive system. They will also be hungry to return to the win column after a tight regulation loss on Monday. I expect a full rout here, with a 5-1 win for the Carolina Hurricanes.
