Hurricanes vs. Canadiens NHL Betting Odds

Tuesday is the second of three regular-season meetings between the teams with Carolina returning to Montreal on April 1. The Habs will be long eliminated from playoff contention by then.

The first matchup was on Feb. 16 in Raleigh and won 6-2 by the Hurricanes. Seth Jarvis completed a hat trick with a short-handed goal at 19:40 of the third. Carolina outscored Montreal 4-0 in the third. Michael Pezzetta and Rafael Harvey-Pinnard had the Habs’ goals. Sam Montembeault was in net for Montreal and Antti Raanta for Carolina.

The Hurricanes won their lone game in Montreal last season 4-1. Carolina is 13-3 in the past 16 meetings.

Carolina Hurricanes

The Canes were rumored in a handful of potential big trades ahead of the deadline but nothing major materialized. They come off a very impressive 6-0 home blowout of Tampa Bay on Sunday. Finns Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Teuvo Teravainen combined for eight points against the Lightning. Kotkaniemi (1G, 4A) had a career-high five points and Teravainen a hat trick in the Hurricanes’ largest margin of victory in a home shutout in nearly 14 years.

Teravainen’s hat trick was the seventh this season by a Hurricanes player, tied for the most in one season in club history (1985-86 when the team was in Hartford). Former Maple Leaf Frederik Andersen became the third Carolina goaltender to record a shutout this season, marking the first time in Hurricanes team history that three netminders have had a shutout in the same season. One minor trade the Canes made was getting Jesse Puljujarvi from Edmonton, but he hasn’t debuted yet due to visa issues. The Hurricanes are 10-1 in their past 11 after scoring at least five goals in their previous game.

Montreal Canadiens

Montreal lost its third in a row Sunday, 4-3 in Las Vegas to conclude a Western Conference road trip at 1-3. The Habs were down 3-0 in the third against Vegas but got goals from Mike Matheson (fifth), Alex Belzile (second) and Rafael Harvey-Pinard (eighth) to make thing interesting. Blueliner Frederic Allard posted two shots on goal in 11:31 of ice time during his Montreal debut Sunday with Kaiden Guhle and Justin Barron out injured but was sent back down to the AHL on Monday. Jake Allen stopped 24 of 28 shots and is 2-3-0 with 15 goals allowed across his last five outings. Montreal is 4-1 in its past five vs. Metropolitan Division foes.
