The Oilers are listed as -225 favourites to claim their first victory of the season while the Flyers trail as +180 underdogs on the Tuesday NHL odds. The total is pegged at 6.5.

The Flyers are hoping to reverse their fortunes after struggling mightily on the road in the second half of last season, which they closed out with just four wins in 13 contests away from Wells Fargo Center. Those woes extend to recent visits to Edmonton, where the Flyers have lost four of five meetings with the Oilers, with each of those defeats coming by multi-goal margins. After eking out a gutsy 3-2 comeback victory in Vancouver to open their schedule on Friday, the Flyers were snake bitten in Saturday’s visit to Calgary. Philadelphia found itself facing an early 2-0 deficit despite outshooting the Flames by a wide 19-9 margin in the opening frame and paid the price while shorthanded, surrendering a pair of power play goals that sealed their fate in a 6-3 loss. Travis Konecny emerged as the Flyers’ top performer, potting a pair of goals on five shots while Joel Farabee was rewarded for his six-shot performance with his first marker of the season. However, it was a tough season debut for goalie Ivan Fedotov, who was rocked for five goals on just 31 shots, and has now been lit up for 15 total goals in four career NHL appearances including two starts. With Fedotov failing to inspire in Saturday’s loss, Samuel Ersson is likely to go the call between the pipes on Tuesday night.

The Oilers are showing all the signs of a letdown after their emotional march to last season’s Stanley Cup Final. The defending Western Conference champions have struggled on both sides of the puck while stumbling out of the gate for a second straight year. Edmonton shooters have had their chances.
