Philadelphia Flyers vs. Edmonton Oilers Prediction, NHL Odds
The Oilers are coming off a demoralizing 6-5 overtime loss in Colorado on Sunday, and have now surrendered 5.5 goals per game during their four-game slide. The Flyers get set to play their third game in four nights after tallying a 4-3 victory in Calgary on Monday, but have failed to post consecutive wins during a dismal 5-7-3 run.
Despite their recent struggles, the Oilers look to Tuesday’s matchup perched as heavy -320 home favourites on the NHL odds, while the Flyers are listed as +263 underdogs. The total is pegged at a lofty 7.0, with the UNDER favoured with -126 odds.
Flyers vs. Oilers NHL Betting Odds
Tuesday night’s matchup at Rogers Place marks the second and final regular season meeting between these clubs. The Flyers skated to a 2-1 win when they hosted Edmonton on Feb. 9, and have now claimed victory in six of 10 overall head-to-head clashes. However, the Oilers hold a clear edge when facing the Flyers on home ice, winning eight of 11 matchups since 2002.
While recent head-to-head dates in Philadelphia have been low scoring, these teams have regularly filled the net when facing off in Edmonton, averaging 7.38 total goals per game during a 7-1 run for the OVER.
Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers made the most of their limited opportunities while halting a four-game losing streak with Monday’s win over the Flames. Philly shooters mustered just 22 shots, but were buoyed by the standout performance of rookie netminder Samuel Ersson, who turned aside 32 of 35 shots to preserve the win. That marks a big turnaround for this club after surrendering six goals in each of the first two dates on their current four-game road trip, and 4.5 goals per game during their four-game slide.
With the Flyers hitting the ice for the second time in as many nights, Carter Hart is expected to get the call in net. Hart struggled in his past two outings, allowing eight total goals on just 40 total shots in 4.5 periods of work. Hart has earned the win in just two of six away appearances. The club have also seen their injury woes deepen. Travis Konecny was forced to leave Monday’s win with an unspecified injury, and his status for Tuesday is uncertain.
Edmonton Oilers
For the second time in as many outings, the Oilers blew a multi-goal lead in Sunday’s loss to the Avalanche. Edmonton twice squandered two-goal leads, and were thoroughly outplayed in the extra frame in their 6-5 overtime loss to the defending Stanley Cup champions. That loss comes on the heels of the team’s meltdown in Friday’s 5-4 shootout loss to the New York Rangers in which they led by a 4-1 margin after 20 minutes. Overall, Edmonton has now lost six of its past nine contests, but has seen five of those defeats come in overtime or shootout.
In addition to surrendering 22 total goals during their current four-game swoon, the Oilers have also allowed an average of 40 shots over their past two outings. And while he has tallied five assists during a three-game points streak, Connor McDavid has failed to score during the team’s four-game slide, and has potted just one goal over his past seven outings.
