Islanders vs. Flyers Game 4 Prediction, Stanley Cup Playoff Odds
After two nights off, it’s two nights of action for the Islanders and Flyers, New York now leading the Second Round series 2-1. Last night the Isles got back to their defensive, lock it down style en route to a 3-1 win.
Heading into Game 4, NHL oddsmakers continue to list the games in this series as pick’ems.
Flyers vs. Islanders Betting Analysis
A four-goal Game 3 has only lowered these clubs’ postseason goals against per game; New York’s currently giving up a postseason best 1.73 goals per game while Philadelphia’s second among remaining clubs at 2.09.
Each team’s starting netminder has very solid numbers too. Philly’s Carter Hart currently leads all remaining goalies with a .935 save percentage, while the Long Island’s Semyon Varlamov is right behind with a .932 percentage. Considering these numbers alone, both are early Conn Smythe candidates granted either makes it the distance.
But trends say it’s still buyer beware with the under. The over is 7-3 in these teams’ last 10 meetings with New York potting 3.7 goals per game.
Philadelphia Flyers
Despite a solid start, the Flyers lost their offensive steam after Tyler Pitlick’s opening goal Saturday. With just 27 shots, the Flyers didn’t generate enough chances nor score on enough. New York gifted Philly a late power play for a six-on-four, but it proved to be ineffective as the score remained 3-1.
In what’s sounding like a broken record, Philadelphia needs more from their stars. The Flyers have just three players in the top 50 postseason scorers, and only one — Kevin Hayes — in the top 40.
With 11 games played, both Travis Konecny and Claude Giroux remain scoreless in the bubble in what’s becoming a major issue.
On the bright side, the Flyers are 3-0 this postseason coming off a loss.
New York Islanders
It was New York’s depth coming through Saturday as grinders Matt Martin and Leo Komarov each found the scoreboard, the latter netting the game-winner.
Barry Trotz’s club is in a similar spot as Philadelphia in terms of scoring power. Five Islanders are in the top 50 postseason scorers, but the difference seems to be the entire Isles roster stepping up when necessary. Game 3 is a prime example with two goals from the bottom-six.
Veteran Josh Bailey is now quietly in 12th among all skaters with 11 points, while Anthony Beauvillier is tied for second with seven goals.
With the win Saturday, New York is now 7-2-1 in their last 10 against Philadelphia.
