Alex Ovechkin’s race for the all-time goal-scoring lead is put on pause as he is expected to miss his seventh game in a row. The Capitals captain has scored 12 points in six games versus the Flyers this year.

Flyers vs. Capitals 5/7/21 Betting Analysis

Washington is the -192 favourite to win on the NHL Odds board tonight. The Capitals dropped the season series opener back in February, but have not lost to Philadelphia since, making the series 5-1 in their favour. 58 percent of bettors are siding with the Caps.

The Capitals have covered the spread in their past five victories over the Flyers, as well as six of their past seven. Philly has covered only twice in their past 10 games making them 23-30 on the year.

These teams have played the over in five of their six meetings and are 13-7 to the over since 2017. With a total at 6.5 tonight, 74 percent of bettors are taking the over. The Flyers are on a bit of an over trend lately as four of their past five have ended with at least eight goals.

Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers have been the worst team in the East Division over the past 10 games with a record of 3-6-1. They lost three in a row to New Jersey, then split a back-to-back with the second-place Penguins. Shayne Gostisbehere will serve his one-game suspension tonight for a late cross-check during their 7-3 loss to Pittsburgh. With him out, American defenceman Cam York is expected to play his first NHL game. York was selected 14th overall by Philadelphia back in 2019. The 20-year-old won the gold medal with the Americans in the most recent World Juniors and in only six AHL games, he has five points.

The Flyers Captain has been red-hot in the past two games, Claude Giroux had five points in the back-to-back with Pittsburgh.

Washington Capitals

Washington returns home after a chaotic road trip to Madison Square Garden where the Caps and Rangers were assessed over 140 minutes in penalties in a single game. Tom Wilson sparked most of the controversy in that game but came out of it all without any supplementary discipline. Wilson was pulled from the game in the first period after only playing 1:54 seconds. He seemed to have suffered an upper-body injury after a fight with Rangers defenceman Brendan Smith. Washington had a heartfelt moment amid all the violence when forward TJ Oshie scored a hat-trick in his first game back since losing his father.

The Caps will be missing their Captain Alex Ovechkin due to a lower-body injury. Ovechkin scored eight of his 24 goals this year against Philly, the most versus any opponent.
