Amid a season-high seven-game losing streak, the Flyers have slid into sixth place in the Metropolitan Division. Philly is still just two points from the third playoff spot and one point from the final wildcard. With three of the four teams ahead of them in action Tuesday night, an ordinary weeknight becomes one of the big stakes.

Puck drop from Bell Centre is set for 7 p.m. ET and our NHL odds have the Flyers as a slight -135 favourite to win on the moneyline. The OVER/UNDER set at an even six goals.

Flyers vs. Canadiens NHL Betting Odds

The season series is tied at one game apiece as they head into Tuesday’s third and final meeting. In their most recent matchup less than two weeks ago, the Canadiens handed Philly a 4-1 beating in Montreal. The Flyers had no luck in that one, having two goals called back while out-shooting the Canadiens 30-17, but could not put more than one past Habs goalie Cayden Primeau.

The Habs have beaten Philly in five of their eight regular-season meetings in the past three years. The OVER//UNDER result was split 4-4, but the past three meetings have all played the UNDER.

Philly can not get out of their own way coming into the final week of the regular season. This seven-game losing streak consists of four losses to non-playoff teams while being outscored 33-15. They are 3-3-1 on the OVER/UNDER while scoring just 2.1 goals per game. They were the best team to bet to cover the spread all season at 46-32 but have fallen off in that regard, covering just once during this long skid.

Montreal has been sneaky all season, helping them put up a 48-29 record ATS on the year, more covers than any other team in the league. They are on a skid of their own, however, losing their past three games and failing to cover in each one. Their opponents in the past three are all in playoff positions and top five in the Eastern Conference. They have only scored two goals in each of the past two games, so expect them to try and turn that around tonight.

Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers hit a new low for the season on Saturday night, as they were handed their seventh straight loss in a 6-2 beatdown by the worst team in the Eastern Conference, the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Jackets were up 3-0 at the midway mark of the game before the Flyers found the back of the net on Olle Lycksell’s first career NHL goal. Columbus piled on three more goals after that, taking a 6-1 lead. With five minutes to go, Adam Ginning’s first career goal cut the lead to 6-2. The final shot tally was 39-33 in Philly’s favour, as the Flyers outshot their opponents for the seventh straight game. The only other positive in the game for Philadelphia was their two rookies notching their first NHL goals.

Fans are putting a lot of the blame on the team’s goaltending tandem of Samuel Ersson and newcomer Ivan Fedetov. Ersson has started five of the seven games, posting a combined .800 save percentage, losing every game including an early exit after the first versus the Islanders. In Fedetov’s small sample size, he has a 3.84 goals against and an .850 save percentage in just two games.

Montreal Canadiens

Cole Caufield (24) opened the scoring for Montreal on Sunday versus the Rangers, giving the Habs the 1-0 lead after the first period. The tally extended his goal streak to four games in a row, one game away from tying his career-high. Unfortunately for the Canadiens, the momentum did not carry over into the rest of the game as New York scored three consecutive goals to take a 3-1 lead. Alex Newhook (13) gave the Bell Centre some life, bringing them back within one, but the Rangers put in two more for a 5-2 final.

Mike Matheson had an assist on both goals in this game, giving him six points in the past four games. The 30-year-old broke out with 57 points this season, becoming the first Canadiens defenceman with over 50 since P.K. Subban.

Cayden Primeau played pretty solid in goal, stopping 41 shots. He has started in both games versus the Flyers this season and has played them very well, but with their current rotation, Samuel Montembeault will draw Philadelphia on Tuesday.

Bad news for Habs fans as fan favourite defender Arber Xhekaj will miss the final five games of the season due to shoulder surgery. Kaiden Guhle will also be unavailable for Tuesday’s game, dealing with an upper-body injury.
