Both the Arizona Coyotes and Calgary Flames have won three of their last four games. While the Coyotes are out of the playoff picture and are merely playing spoiler, the Flames are fighting for their playoff lives. They’re six points out of a spot with 15 games to go.

The most startling stat with the Flames is that they’re 1-6 in their last seven when going up against a team with a losing overall record. It’s been painful to bet them in those spots and watch them lose. As for the total, the under is 11-2-1 in their last 14 games when coming into the third game of a 3-in-4 days situation.
Flipping over to the Coyotes, they are 5-1 in their last six games when holding their opponent to under two goals in their previous matchup. However, they are 13-39 in their last 52 games when going up against teams from the Pacific Division. As for their total, the over has hit in four of their last five games played at home.
Calgary Flames
Calgary didn’t make much of a splash during the trade deadline. All they did was add Troy Stecher and Nick Ritchie, a solid and the team’s performance since has mostly reflected that. They aren’t in a great position when it comes to the standings and their hopes for a Stanley Cup run this season were way off. However, a playoff spot is still a possibility – if they stop blowing winnable games like this.
The Flames are coming off an encouraging win where they dominated the Ottawa Senators 5-1 on Sunday. They also beat the Dallas Stars – one of the top teams in the conference – 5-4 last Monday. They clearly have the players necessary to put up quality wins but it just doesn’t come consistently enough.
One area that Calgary seems to get a lot of help in is its special teams. In their previous win, Calgary was able to score a short-handed goal on top of a power play goal to give them an advantage. That special team’s crew will need to play a major role against the Coyotes if they want to avoid falling victim to a strong run from Arizona.
Arizona Coyotes
After the trade deadline came and went, the Coyotes were expected to head in the wrong direction. However, they’ve got a five-game point streak coming into this matchup with Calgary. The top line in Arizona was unbelievable on Sunday during their overtime win against the Minnesota Wild. Clayton Keller had three points, including the game-winner. Meanwhile, Brett Ritchie had a goal and two assists, and Barrett Hayton had two goals and two assists. It feels like the Coyotes are playing loose, just focusing on rebuilding, and some of their young guns are delivering.
Arizona has scored at least four goals in four of their last five games. They should be able to keep it going against the Flames, who have the fifth-worst save percentage as a team (.894).
