It’s been a relatively rough go for both squads through the first month of the season. Each is multiple games under .500 and has tasted some bitter defeats in the process. Something’s gotta give.

The hockey experts see Bruce Boudreau’s Canucks as favourites on the NHL odds and +147 on the puckline. As for the O/U, it’s estimated at 6 goals.

Ducks vs. Canucks NHL Betting Odds

There’s no beating around the bush: Anaheim hasn’t been a very good hockey club over the past few seasons. That said, if there’s one thing they can count on, it’s that the good times roll when facing their BC-based opponents. The Ducks have taken six of the past seven contests, the most recent one a 7-4 battering in Feb. In fact, in four of those six victories, Anaheim netted at least five goals.

With a 3-6-1 record on the year, no one will be surprised to learn that the California club is only 3-7 ATS. Not helping matters is that they’ve been the victims of some vicious poundings against the Rangers, Golden Knights, Islanders, and Red Wings.

The Canucks are an example of a relatively bad squad that can sometimes be a decent bet. A 2-6-2 record on the year has translated to an okay 4-6 ATS record because a lot of their games are close.

Anaheim Ducks

Maybe Dallas Eakins’s ensemble is beginning to find its wings. Granted, in the section above we brought up the point about them suffering a series of emphatic defeats, but they’ve shown signs of life in the past two games. It all started Sunday night at home against Toronto. Down 3-1 in the third period, the Ducks fought hard to send the game to overtime (a dubious goalie interference call robbed them of a regulation-time winner). Trevor Zegras played the hero in OT.

Then, on Tuesday, a short trip to San Jose saw them involved in a goal-scoring festival that they won 6-5 in a shootout. Adam Henrique, who had been quiet on the scoresheet up until that game, finally netted his first 2 goals of the season. Both teams went back in forth all night, and while the Ducks will be annoyed that they let the Sharks tie the score with less than a minute to play, they still earned the win. Defence and goaltending are not their strongest qualities, but they appear to have found their scoring touch.

Vancouver Canucks

Canucks fans thought that maybe, just maybe, the 2-game winning streak they had was a turning point in the season. Defeating the Kraken in Seattle might not have been a remarkable feat but stuffing the Penguins 5-1 was certainly impressive. Then the Devils came to town on Tuesday night and spoiled all the fun.

It was the day after Halloween, but the 5-2 loss looked like a horror show for much of the night. Consider that New Jersey scored goals in almost every conceivable way: even strength, power play, short-handed, and empty net. Vancouver was outshot 37-22 and dominated in the faceoff circle 30-22. The home team’s second goal of the night came with precious little time left when they were already down 4-1. There may be a ray of hope for the Ducks game. Anaheim has the second-worst penalty kill in the league, whereas Vancouver has the fifth-best power play.
