The ‘Canes have been a different team at home, so we’ll see if they can make one last stand.

Capitals vs Hurricanes Betting Analysis

The Capitals have played well on the road all season, going 24-15-2. They are 5-2 record in their last seven games as a road underdog. Of note, the Caps are also 8-2 in their last 10 games when their opponent had allowed five goals or more in its previous game.

The Hurricanes are 4-0 in their last four home games as a favorite and 20-6 in their last 26 games in that role overall. They are also 9-1 this season when playing at home with a total of 5.5 and 14-9 when scoring one goal or less in their previous game.

Washington Capitals

For whatever reason, Washington has looked like a much different team on the road than at home through the first five games of these playoffs. Conventional wisdom would point to the loss of T.J. Oshie as a reason why the Capitals would struggle offensively. However, Washington scored a series-high six goals in Game 5 on home ice without Oshie, so they are capable of getting the job done without him.

The key to winning Game 6 might very well be the play of goaltender Braden Holtby, who allowed seven goals in a pair of road losses in this series. He has a .943 save percentage at home in this series compared to .898 on the road. He has to be better in this spot for the Caps to end this series.

Carolina Hurricanes

Sticking with the goaltenders, Hurricanes netminder Petr Mrazek has also played better at home in this series. He gave up six goals on 28 shots in Saturday’s loss in Washington but stopped 48 of the 49 shots he faced in his two wins on home ice in this series. Carolina will undoubtedly need another solid effort from Mrazek at home in Game 6 in order to stay alive in this series.

The Hurricanes also need their offence to get going after getting blanked on the road in Game 5. Rookie forward Andrei Svechnikov is still sidelined with concussion symptoms but is eyeing a return. That would give this roster a boost to see the 19-year-old back on the ice. With or without him, young players like Sebastian Aho, Teuvo Teravainen and Warren Foegele really need step up with the season on the line.
