Vancouver Canucks vs. Edmonton Oilers: NHL Odds, Prediction
The Edmonton Oilers and the Vancouver Canucks will bring their NHL seasons to an end on Saturday in Edmonton. As the seasons winds down, the two teams are heading in opposite directions. While the Oilers have dropped five of six, the Canucks have won five of their last six contests. Even so, the Oilers are a big favorite in this NHL matchup.
Canucks vs. Oilers Betting Analysis
The Oilers have won six of their last 10 meetings with the Canucks, who have won two of three this season. Five of the games have gone under the posted total, along with a push. The total has been five goals even for six of the games. However, two games this season have had a posted total of 5.5 goals and the most recent total was six goals.
Keep in mind that Edmonton hasn’t been a favorite this of this size many times this season. They’ve lost three straight times as a favorite of -190 or higher, which has to be somewhat unnerving if you’re backing them.
Vancouver Canucks
The Canucks are 31-40-10 after a 4-3 overtime win at home over Arizona on Thursday. It couldn’t have been scripted any better for Daniel and Henrik Sedin. The two were playing their final home game in Vancouver after announcing they would retire this season. Daniel scored a pair of goals, including the overtime winner. Both of his goals were assisted by brother Henrik. Jake Virtanen and Brendan Leipsic also scored, while Jacob Markstrom stopped 16 shots for the Canucks. It was a spirited effort by the Canucks, who fed off the energy of the crowd and outshot Arizona 40-19.
It has been an awful season for the Canucks, who will miss the playoffs for the third straight season. However, they’ve played well down the stretch, which means you should think twice about laying the juice here in this spot.
Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers are 35-40-6 following a 4-3 win over Las Vegas at home on Thursday. For all of their struggles this season, they didn’t have issues with the Golden Knights as they won three of four meetings. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Mike Cammalleri, Matt Benning and Ty Rattie all found the back of the net, while Cam Talbot made 30 saves for the Oilers. Connor McDavid racked up three more assists and with 106 points. He’ll probably win the Art Ross Trophy for the second year in a row.
The Canucks have won two of their last three on the road but on a greater scale, they’ve dropped 10 of their last 14 away games. They score just 2.43 goals per game on the road – the third-worst mark in the NHL – so that’s why they’re such a big dog in this spot. As much as the Oilers have struggled, they are still 5-3 in their last eight on their own home ice.
