On the puck line, Islanders -1.5 is valued at +120, while Vancouver +1.5 is -142. The game total is set at 6.5, with odds of +110 on the Over and -130 on the Under.
At +140, New York’s Bo Horvat has the shortest odds of any player to score a goal in this game. Horvat scored 31 goals in 68 games last season, and is off to a hot start by potting four goals through five games to start the new campaign. Horvat is going up against his former team in this one, as he spent nine years in Vancouver and scored 201 goals over the course of 621 games with the Canucks.
With odds of +235, Vancouver’s Jake DeBrusk has the shortest odds of any Canuck to score a goal in the contest. DeBrusk led the Canucks with 23 goals last season, and has three goals through five games to open up the 2026-27 season.
Vancouver Canucks
The Canucks are in the middle of a massive rebuild. After making the playoffs just once over the previous six seasons, Vancouver initiated a roster overhaul that was highlighted by trading star defenseman Quinn Hughes to the Wild last December.
The Canucks finished the 2025-26 season with an NHL-low 58 points, and entered the new season with low expectations. They are off to a 2-5-0 start, and after this road trip, will have played seven of their first 10 games on the road.
Elias Pettersson leads the Canucks with eight points on a pair of goals and six assists through seven games. Pettersson registered 102 points in 2022-23 and 89 points in 2023-24, but has yet to exceed 51 points over the last two seasons. His strong start is certainly encouraging.
New York Islanders
The Islanders missed the playoffs last season after finishing with 91 points. New York was in the hunt until the very end, but a 3-7-0 record down the stretch ultimately doomed their postseason hopes.
This is New York’s first full season under head coach Peter DeBoer, who was hired near the end of last season. DeBoer found great regular season success in Dallas and Las Vegas over his last two stints, but could never get over the hump in the postseason. His teams have lost in the conference finals in five of the last six seasons.
Bo Horvat paces the Islanders with six points on four goals and two assists through five games. Ilya Sorokin is off to a solid start between the pipes, as he’s posted a 1.77 goals-against average to go along with a .937 save percentage through four games.
NHL Prediction: Who Will Win Canucks vs. Islanders?
The Canucks are expected to be among the worst teams in the NHL once again this season, while the Islanders should compete for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Vancouver has a tough scheduling draw to start their season, and this east coast road trip has already presented a ton of challenges.
With much better goaltending and a higher offensive ceiling, look for the Islanders to find the win column in this matchup.
