Vancouver Canucks vs. Carolina Hurricanes Prediction, NHL Odds

The Vancouver Canucks and Carolina Hurricanes meet Friday for a battle in the NHL in what is the first of two matchups this season. Both teams are coming off a multi-goal regulation loss and will look to earn a big win in this one.

This kicks off a three-game road trip for Vancouver, and is the second of a three-game homestand for Carolina. These teams are in far different positions in the standings, but could we see an upset? Here is my Canucks vs. Hurricanes preview and prediction.

Carolina is a -250 favourite to win on the NHL odds, with the total set at 6.5.

Canucks vs. Hurricanes NHL Betting Odds

The Vancouver Canucks and Carolina Hurricanes play twice per year as teams from different conferences. Carolina swept the season series 2-0 last season, ending a three-game winning streak for Vancouver dating back to January 2023.

ATS (against the spread), neither team has been incredible, as the Hurricanes are 8-8 and the Canucks are 8-9. As for game totals, Carolina is 9-7 to the Over, while Vancouver is 13-4-1. Additionally, the Over has cashed in nine of their last 10 contests. As a favourite, the Canes are 5-3 this season, and the Canucks are just 2-4-1 as an underdog.

Vancouver Canucks

It has been a very challenging year for the Vancouver Canucks, as their 8-9-1 record has them seventh in the Pacific Division and 13th in the Western Conference. Coming into the season, the organization was hopeful of a bounce-back year where their potential could be reached, but we have seen nothing of the kind so far.

Starting goaltender Thatcher Demko remains out with an injury, which has been a major factor in their abysmal defence, where they have given up the sixth-highest goals against average (3.5). Plus, not a single player on the team has produced on a point per game average, including Quinn Hughes, Elias Pettersson, and Brock Boeser.

They are 1-2-1 in their last four games, and will have an extreme challenge ahead of them on the road against a strong Hurricanes team.

Carolina Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes are surging as expected. While they are coming off a 4-1 loss to the Washington Capitals, they are 4-1-0 in their last five games and sit in second in the Metropolitan Division. This is a team with high talent and high expectations, so expect this performance to continue.

The Hurricanes have been winning by committee, and leading the way is Sebastian Aho with 16 points and Seth Jarvis with 10 goals. They are also currently running with a clean bill of health. This is a mature team that is well-balanced and tough to beat.

NHL Prediction: Who Will Win Canucks vs. Hurricanes?

Carolina has proven to be a rock-solid team, which is exactly what I expected this season. They are an impressive 5-2-0 on home ice thus far, and are welcoming a team that just cannot find its footing. Carolina is far deeper and is extremely well-coached with Rod Brind’Amour. This could be a true masterclass by Carolina, and I see them winning 5-1.
