It’s only been two games, but the Vancouver Canucks have been one of the more entertaining teams in the NHL – for better and for worse. Vancouver and Calgary combined for 18 goals in splitting their season-opening home-and-home set, while the Hurricanes have taken five of a possible six points to open their campaign.

NHL Odds and Betting Analysis

The Hurricanes are major favourites in this one, fresh off a wild 8-5 home victory over the New York Rangers. But Carolina, which is playing its fourth game in six nights to kick off the season, didn’t fare well in that scenario last season, going just 1-7 the final eight times it finished off a four-in-six stretch. Meanwhile, Vancouver has won just three times in its past 16 games when allowing five or more goals in its previous outing.

The total is set at 6 – but given the firewagon hockey these teams have played so far, it’s realistic to expect the final tally to above the number. The Canucks have scored nine goals while surrendering nine, while the Hurricanes have seen 20 goals scored through their first three games. But the Canucks have cashed the under in nine of their previous 11 road games, while the Hurricanes are 2-6 O/U in their last eight contests overall.

Vancouver Canucks

Last year, it was Brock Boeser that captured Canucks fans’ hearts with an incredible rookie season. This year, it’s a Swedish teenager that has Vancouver all a-flutter. Elias Pettersson leads all first-year players in scoring with three goals and two assists through two games, including a two-goal, one-assist performance in defeat last time out. Bettors should lock in on Pettersson’s Tuesday point props while he remains red-hot.

Carolina Hurricanes

The Hurricanes were short on offence last season but did well to spread out the scoring, with 10 players managing 10 or more goals. That has carried over into the early stages of the 2018-19 campaign, with eight different players tallying through the first four games. Extending their early-season scoring prowess into Tuesday could help Carolina reverse a trend that has seen it lose 10 of its last 14 games against the Pacific Division.
