Vancouver Canucks vs. New Jersey Devils Prediction, NHL Odds
New Jersey dropped a wild 8-5 decision in Chicago on Friday, while Vancouver won a third straight game, 5-2, in New York on Sunday.
The Devils are very slim favourites to win on the NHL odds, with a total of 6.5.
Canucks vs. Devils NHL Betting Odds
It has been all New Jersey in this head-to-head series over the last several years. The Devils have won 10 straight games against Vancouver, dating back to 2015, although this is the first meeting since November 2019. Early Sports Interaction bettors seem to see that winning trend ending, with about three-quarters of action taking the Canucks. It’s roughly a 60/40 split favouring the Over, although it’s worth noting that they Under has played in the last seven games.
Vancouver has turned things around under Bruce Boudreau and they enter Monday with wins in five of their last six games overall and six of their last eight on the road. They’re a healthy 31-23 against the spread on the season, including 17-12 ATS on the road. The total has gone Over in the Canucks’ last five games.
The Devils will be looking to get back into the win column at home, where they’ve dropped five consecutive games. They’re 24-28 ATS overall and they’ve failed to cover in 15 of 26 home dates. The total has gone Over in five of New Jersey’s last six games.
Vancouver Canucks
Tanner Pearson, Tyler Myers, Juho Lammikko and Matthew Highmore gave Vancouver a 4-0 lead heading into the third period on Sunday, while Elias Pettersson added an empty-netter late in the game. Thatcher Demko stopped 31 of 33 shots faced. J.T. Miller, an expected trade piece in the lead-up to next month’s trade deadline, added two assists and now has 15 points (5G, 10A) over his last eight games.
Outside of Miller, who leads the team in both goals (20) and points (59), offence hasn’t been easy to come by in Vancouver. He’s the only 20-goal scorer on the team and only eight skaters have scored more than seven goals this season. The Canucks are 23rd in average goals per game (2.76).
With Demko going on Sunday, it should be Jaroslav Halak in net on Monday. In nine starts this season, the veteran NHL journeyman has posted a 2-5-2 record with a 2.93 goals-against average and .899 save percentage.
New Jersey Devils
New Jersey’s defence let them down once again on Friday as the Devils gave up eight goals to Chicago, although two were empty-netters. Jesper Bratt had his second consecutive two-goal game, while Jack Hughes, Yegor Sharangovich and Jonas Siegenthaler also put their names on the scoresheet. Bratt leads the team in goals (18) and points (48). Jon Gillies made 29 saves on 35 shots. New Jersey gives up the third-most goals in the league this season, averaging 3.60 goals-against per game.
It’s unclear who will get the start on Monday between Gillies and 21-year-old rookie Nico Daws. Gillies has struggled this season, going 3-9-0 with a 3.77 GAA and .884 SV. He’s lost his last three starts, giving up 15 combined goals in those games. Daws has seen limited action this season but has looked good when given a chance. He’s 2-1-0 with a 2.64 GAA and .906 SV. In his last start, Daws made 37 saves in a 6-1 win in Pittsburgh on Thursday.
