Now winless in their last five and dropping a 4-3 matchup against one of the worst clubs in the league, the Canadiens will do their best to right the ship in Washington tonight. The Capitals are on their own losing streak, dropping their last two. Bad news for the Habs – the Caps haven’t lost three in a row in regulation all season.

Canadiens vs. Capitals Betting Analysis

The Montreal Canadiens record now sits at 27-27-8, putting them in sixth place in the Atlantic Division. The Washington Capitals have a 37-17-5 record, for second place in the Metropolitan Division.

Washington is 23-12-1 when playing conference opponents. The Habs have struggled to keep pucks out of the net when killing penalties, giving up 39 power-play goals so far this season.

These two teams last played on January 27th, and the Capitals came away with a 4-2 win, with Tom Wilson earning two points that night for Washington.

Montreal Canadiens

Andreas Athanasiou capped the Red Wings’ three-goal third period as Detroit beat the Canadiens 4-3 on Tuesday. An ugly stat for the Habs? Detroit has only won 15 games this season and four of those wins have come against the Canadiens. Tuesday’s game gave the Red Wings the season sweep.

Nate Thompson and Jeff Petry had opened the scoring in the game, giving the Canadiens a lead in the first. Nick Suzuki also found his way onto the scoreboard in the third, but it wasn’t going to be enough as the Red Wings rallied. Claude Julien voiced his frustration after the game, saying:

“We can’t see to play a good game for a full 60 minutes. It’s frustrating and it’s unacceptable. If you want to be the winning team, you have to be able to play the same way for 60 minutes. We haven’t been doing that lately. If we keep on playing the same way we played during the first two periods, we’ll win the game. But we weren’t able to do that.”

Carey Price was in net and had 21 saves. Price has started 51 games this season and has a 24-22-5 record with a 2.76 GAA and a .910 save percentage.

Washington Capitals

The Penguins won earlier this week, and the Capitals lost, which pushed Washington out of first place in the Metropolitan division. The Capitals will play host to the mediocre Canadiens tonight, and will try to get things back on track.

In their last game, the Caps lost 3-2 to the Golden Knights. Las Vegas got things started quickly, scoring their first in the first four minutes of the game, then getting another one in the last moments of the first period. T.J. Oshie scored twice in under two minutes in a huge effort to close the gap, but the Knights were able to keep the Capitals from scoring again.

Alex Ovechkin is two goals away from getting his 700th career goal, which will make him just the eighth player in league history to do so.

Braden Holtby hasn’t been having a great season and holds a 21-13-4 record, with a 3.11 goals-against average and a .897 save percentage. Backup rookie Ilya Samsonov has looked promising, however, with a 16-4-1 record with a 2.38 GAA and a .917 save percentage.
