The Canadiens travel to St. Louis after opening their current four-game road trip with a 3-2 victory in Buffalo on Thursday that marked their first away win of the season.
The Canadiens have gained slightly on the Saturday NHL odds since opening as +257 underdogs, climbing to +256. The total remains unchanged since opening at 6.5. However, the odds have tilted in favour of the OVER, which is now pegged as -121 chalk.

Saturday night’s matchup at Enterprise Center marks the first of two scheduled meetings between these teams this season. Each team earned a home victory in two clashes last season, but Montreal holds the overall edge heading into their first trip to St. Louis in three years, with wins in four of other past six dates with the Blues. With five total goals getting scored in each of last season’s matchups, the UNDER now enjoys a 2-0-0 run, and has paid out in five of seven head-to-head meetings. Montembeault stopped 43 of 45 shots including 17 of 18 in the third period to seal the win, and snap Montreal’s two-game losing streak. Generating offence has emerged as a concern for the Habs, particularly in the wake of an injury to prized rookie Juraj Slafkovsky, who missed Thursday’s contest and remains listed as day-to-day. In addition to tallying just two goals per game over their past three contests, the Canadiens have managed to score more than three goals just once since their emotional opening night win over Toronto. The team’s top two scorers have also cooled off from their torrid start. The duo of Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield combined to score seven goals during the team’s steady 3-2-0 start, but have mustered just one total goal over the past three games. While Montembeault is coming off an impressive performance, it is more likely that Jake Allen will suit up against his former Blues teammates in the Habs’ first trip to St. Louis since he joined the team in 2020. Allen has surrendered two or fewer goals in three of his past four outings, but earned just one win over that stretch.
St. Louis Blues
The Blues had no answer for a well-rested Predators squad looking to get past a dismal start to the season in Thursday night’s 6-2 loss in Nashville. The Blues frustrated Nashville by taking an early lead despite getting outshot by a 15-8 margin in the opening frame. However, goaltender Thomas Greiss faded quickly in his debut in the Blues crease, allowing a pair of second-period goals just 37 seconds apart that gave Nashville a lead they would not relinquish. In his defence, Greiss enjoyed little support from his Blues teammates, particularly in the third period, when he allowed three goals while getting peppered with 17 shots. St. Louis has now been outscored by a 13-3 overall margin during their three-game slide, while allowing 42 or more shots twice. Overall, the club has scored just five total goals over their past four outings, and have not been helped by injuries that have sidelined Pavel Buchnevich and Brandon Saad.
