While it is never a great time to face Colorado, Montreal might meet them at the worst time possible as the Avalanche looks to roll to their 10th straight win. If that is not daunting enough, Colorado has been the best team on home ice this season and if they needed any more incentive to win on Tuesday, a win could put them atop the NHL standings.

The puck drop is set for 9:00 PM EST Tuesday and our NHL odds have the Avalanche as a heavy favourite, sitting at -400 on the Moneyline. The OVER/UNDER set at an even six goals.

Canadiens vs. Avalanche NHL Betting Odds

Montreal hosted the Avalanche in January and pulled off a 4-3 upset win all thanks to a goal in the final five minutes from Joel Armia. Colorado was red hot coming into that game as well, having won 12 of their last 15, while Montreal was on a three-game skid until that point. Another upset on Tuesday would grant the Canadiens the season series sweep over the Avs for the first time.

Although the Canadiens are in the bottom six of the overall league standings they have been a solid bet to cover the spread this season with a 42-25 record ATS, the second most covers in the league. After scoring no more than two in six of their previous seven, the Habs’ offence popped off with five goals in their most recent outing on Sunday. In that eight-game stretch, they played the OVER/UNDER 2-6, pushing them to 35-33-2 on the year.

Colorado boasts the highest-scoring offence in the league, helping them be one of the most consistent OVER bets at 39-28-4. The Avs failed to cover the spread in their most recent win, snapping a streak of five in a row. During their nine-game win streak, they have covered seven times moving their record ATS to 36-35.

Montreal Canadiens

A four-goal first period powered the Canadiens to a 5-1 win Sunday night in Seattle versus the Kraken, snapping a four-game skid. Kaiden Guhle (6) got the offence started when his wrister from the blue line bounced in on the Habs’ first shot on goal. Guhle picked up his second point of the night when Alex Newhook (11) deflected his point shot in, giving Montreal a 2-0 lead. Nick Suzuki (28) would score next and Newhook (12) would score his second of the game assisted by Guhle again, for his third point of the period.

19-year-old Juraj Slafkovsky picked up an assist in the game and extended his point to seven games where he picked up eight points (2G 6A). He now has 39 points in 70 games this year and is only a few away from setting the record for most points by a teenager in Canadiens history.

Head coach Martin St. Louis is back behind the bench for the Canadiens after missing the past few due to a family emergency. His squad should find some extra motivation to see their boss back in the office.

Colorado Avalanche

It looked like the winning streak was about to come to an end for the Avs on Sunday night as they fell behind 4-0 to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Just after the mid-way point of the game, defenceman Sean Walker scored to spark the comeback. Colorado went on to score four more for five unanswered goals to complete the comeback and take the game 5-4 in overtime. Jonathan Drouin finished the night with a pair of goals including the game winner and Nathan MacKinnon scored his 44th and had a pair of assists extending his point streak.

Sean Walker has been on fire since joining the Avs picking up three goals, and four points in the seven games since being picked up at the deadline.

Mackinnon’s three point game got his season total to 122 points, passing Joe Sakic’s record of 120. Next up is Peter Stastny who had 139 back when they were in Quebec as the Nordiques.

Colorado is chasing the top spot in the league, behind a pair of teams by just one point. A win on Tuesday could push them into the top spot.
