The much anticipated battle between the Montreal Canadiens and Boston Bruins for top position in the Northeast did not disappoint. With a number of opening penalties and a fight, the intensity the fans expected was there and would continue throughout the remainder of the game.

With the Canadiens win over the Bruins the road team has managed to take each game.

Michael Ryder of Montreal was first to strike, getting on the board in just over four minutes into the first period. Early in the second period P.K. Subban momentarily hushed Bruins fans as he opened up the lead by two.

But 39 seconds later Dougie Hamilton scored what would be the first of four unanswered goals for the Bruins. Brad Marchand was able to get his first goal in eleven games after he managed to bang one in off of the left heal of  Gary Price. Patrice Bergeron caught a lucky bounce from a shot that ricocheted off Subban’s pants managing to produce a goal and 35 seconds later Nathan Horton made it a 4-2 game.

Canadiens coach Michel Therrien would have Price sit out the remainder of the game as he had Peter Budaj replace him in third to try and shake things up, which appeared to work as Ryder would get his second of the night 3:58 into the period.

It wouldn’t be long before Tyler Seguin of the Bruins drained his 11th of the year to make it 5-3 but the Canadiens would not give up and Gallagher would make it a one goal game.

With 8.2 seconds remaining Andrei Markov would get the buzzer beater to send this game into overtime which would end scoreless after one last big save from Budaj.

In the shootout Gallagher secured the Habs’ place at the top of the Northeast Division with his third goal of the night.

Mark it on your calendars, April 6th in Montreal will be the fourth and final time that these rivals matchup for the regular season.
