Boston Bruins vs. Calgary Flames Prediction, NHL Odds

Boston has been in or around a playoff spot, but a recent slump has the Bruins on the outside looking in and losing ground.

Meanwhile, it looked like this season ended for the Flames before it ever began. There was speculation of a fire sale as early as October. There is a different narrative around the Flames as we approach the midway point of the season. Calgary enters this game playing great hockey and giving themselves a chance at playoff contention.

Bruins vs. Flames NHL Betting Odds

The Bruins are winless in their last five games after a loss on Saturday. They have largely been dominated during that stretch as their -14 goal differential comes out to an average loss by 2.8 goals. Boston’s goal prevention has been letting them down as they have allowed 21 goals in their last four games. If they want any chance in this one, they need to clean up the defensive side of the puck.

Somewhat surprisingly, the Flames are 7-3-0 in their last 10 as part of a current 11-5-1 run. Calgary has also won seven out of their previous eight home games. That brings their home record to 10-5-2 on the season and 14-3 against the spread at the friendly confines.

Boston Bruins

This year’s Bruins were given low expectations, but have been a pleasant surprise. Lately, they’ve looked a bit more like that preseason expectation version of the team. Boston’s five-game losing streak has come at the hands of teams that are good, but not necessarily great.

The aforementioned 21 goals allowed in their last four games have plummeted Boston to 24th in the NHL in goals allowed per game. That weakness, paired with an 8-10 road record on the season, as well as a slump, gives the Bruins an uphill battle tonight.

Calgary Flames

In November, it appeared Calgary just had a good week, and that the strong play was not sustainable. Now, approaching 20 games of playing good hockey, it does not look like a fluke. This is a good hockey team that has competed with the league’s elite.

An impressive aspect of the Flames’ strong play is that they have not made a single improvement that they have ridden. They have been able to morph their game to what will beat their opponent in any given game. Calgary has won high-scoring games, low-scoring games, at home, on the road, and against both good and bad teams. The Flames are a tough draw right now.

NHL Prediction: Who Will Win Bruins vs. Flames?

There have been plenty of hot teams this season that make fools out of bettors fading based on “can’t last forever”. The Flames have become one of those teams. Again, they are nearing 20 games of strong play, and they looked great in their first game back from the break in a 3-2 win over Edmonton.

Until or unless they cool down, the Flames appear to be a team to ride. That is especially the case against teams like Boston that are not exactly a juggernaut. The Bruins’ slump only amplifies the appeal for the Flames. Calgary is a more reliable play here for a 4-3 home win.
