In his last game against the Blues (November 24), Patrik Laine became the first NHLer since Johan Franzen (February 2, 2011) to score five goals in a regular season game.
It’s only game number 28 for the Jets, but this is the fourth and final matchup of the regular season between these two teams. Winnipeg will be looking for the seasonal sweep against the Blues, something that hasn’t happened since the 2016-17 season, when the Jets took five of five games from the Blues.

The Jets have won both previous games, outscoring the Blues 18-9. In their last game on November 24, Patrik Laine made national sports news across the world as he became the first NHLer since Johan Franzen (February 2, 2011) to score five goals in a regular season game. Mark Scheifele has two goals and five assists against the Blues this season, and Blues Center Ryan O’Reilly has five points (two goals, three assists) against the Jets this season.
In their four head-to-head games last season, both teams won two games each. Three out of the four games were shutouts, with the Jets recording two of them. Connor Hellebuyck was the goaltender of record for both shutouts.
St. Louis Blues
The Blues limp into this game with the Jets with a record of 9-13-4, the franchise’s worst start to the season since the 2006-07 season (7-15-3). One of the big reasons is the Blues injury list. It seem like it’s getting bigger by the day. Blues Captain Alex Pietrangelo (hand) is the latest. He joins a group that already includes Robby Fabbri, Carl Gunnarsson, and Alex Steen.
Blues interim Head Coach Craig Berube is 2-5 since taking over the position from Mike Yeo. In those seven games the team has allowed 28 goals against (four goals against average).
In their game Tuesday night versus the Oilers, the Blues jumped off to a 2-0 first period lead, but lost the game 3-2 in a shootout. It’s the fourth time this season that the Blues have lost a game after taking a two-goal lead. The Blues have now lost four out of their last five games.

Winnipeg Jets
The Jets are playing their best hockey of the season and are on a season high four game winning streak, returning home for a Friday night match-up with the St. Louis Blues. The team completed a three-game sweep of the New York/New Jersey area with wins against the Devils, Rangers, and Islanders.
It’s not all good news for a team that has been banged up on the backend. Dustin Byfuglien has already missed four games with a concussion, there’s no timetable for the big defenceman. Joe Morrow joined him on the sidelines with a lower-body injury, and then on Tuesday prior to the Islanders game, Josh Morrissey was a scratch with an upper-body injury. That left the Jets with three defenceman in the line-up versus the Islanders with less than 10 NHL games combined.
