St. Louis Blues vs. Winnipeg Jets Game 5 Prediction, Playoff Odds

The Jets are priced as -170 favourites on the NHL odds and a total of 5.5 goals.

Blues vs. Jets NHL Playoff Betting Odds

There is a tripleheader of playoff hockey on Wednesday with the first two Game 5s both from the Eastern Conference, and Washington and Florida poised to advance. There will be a Game 6 between the Jets and Blues from St. Louis on Friday obviously regardless of what happens in Game 5 with the series tied 2-2 following the Blues’ 5-1 home victory on Sunday.

On the updated series line, Winnipeg is -185 (was -425 entering Game 4) and St. Louis +150 (was +320). That the series ends in six games and seven are both -110. Jets in six is the +190 favourite, but we like them in seven at +210.

There hasn’t been an overtime game yet and that there will not be in the series is -120. I still like one at +150. There hasn’t been a shutout, either, and that there will not be is -275. That sounds right. St. Louis is the -1400 favourite to score more goals in the series than Winnipeg (+650) as the Blues are up currently 16-10.

Winnipeg’s Kyle Connor is the -120 favourite to be the top goalscorer in the series and is tied for the most with three along with the Blues’ Pavel Buchnevich (+300).

St. Louis Blues

The Blues dominated Game 4 in a 5-1 home victory Sunday with five different players finding the net: Jake Neighbours, Tyler Tucker, Brayden Schenn, Justin Faulk and Robert Thomas. It was Thomas’ second in the series and the first for the others. Neighbours also had two assists and was the No. 2 star. He became fourth Blues player age 23 or younger this century to record three points in a playoff game. Colton Parayko had two assists and now has 24 career playoff helpers to tie Kevin Shattenkirk for sixth place on the franchise’s all-time list among defencemen.  St. Louis has scored five or more goals in consecutive playoff games for the 10th time in franchise history. The team has tied a best-of-seven series 2-2 after losing the first two games for the fifth time. The Blues went on to win just one of those previous series. Richmond Hill native Jordan Binnington has started all four games in net and that won’t change for Game 5, although he wasn’t nearly as good in the first two games in Winnipeg. The blueliner Tucker is in question after leaving Game 4 late with an injury. St. Louis is 10-16 all-time in road Game 5s of a best-of-seven series.

Winnipeg Jets

Which Connor Hellebuyck shows up in net for the Jets? The sure-fire Vezina winner was simply terrible in the two games in St. Louis – pulled in both — and really only strong in Game 2 of this series at home. He has now allowed four goals or more in 10 of his last 13 playoff games. Hellebuyck was much better at home during this regular season at 27-3-3 with a 1.63 GAA and .938 SV. Kyle Connor had the lone goal in Game 4, his team-leading third of the series, for an early 1-0 lead. Blueliner Dylan DeMelo was back after missing Game 3 with an illness. And the struggling Jets offence will welcome back a huge piece for Game 5 in centre Gabriel Vilardi. He has been out since March 23 due to an upper-body injury but had 27 goals and 34 assists in 71 regular-season games. Winnipeg is 1-3 all-time in home Game 5s in a best-of-seven series.
